Job Overview:

The Chaplain Resident supports the medical center s commitment to caring for the whole patient by providing spiritual and emotional support to patients, families and staff. They facilitate spirituality groups as assigned. They provide emotional and spirituality groups as assigned. They provide emotional and spiritual support to staff in time of crisis.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master of Divinity or equivalent
  • Ordination or commissioning and endorsement for specialized ministry by a recognized faith group of the Association of Professional Chaplain
  • One prior unit of Clinical Pastoral Education

Preferred:

  • Excellent communication and pastoral skills
  • High degree of emotional energy and mental alertness, and ability to deal with stress of ministering to patients and loved ones who experience pain, suffering, death and grief
  • Demonstrates organizational and decision making skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to utilize word processing programs

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift
  • Rotating weekends and holidays
  • Per Diem

Essential Functions:

  • Provide pastoral care to patients, families and staff
  • Assess spiritual needs of patients and families, and provide or arrange for pastoral care as needed
  • Share in on-call responsibilities outside of regular business hours, i.e. holidays, weekends, evenings and nights
  • Support interdisciplinary approach to care by participating in staff and team meetings, rounds, family meetings and other patient care conferences. Respond to referrals in a timely manner
  • Document care in CERNER in Pastoral Care Notes and keep records of pastoral care activity to communicate with other members of the department/institution
  • Participate in the total program of pastoral/spiritual care in the hospital
  • Interface with area clergy, pastoral visitors and volunteers from the faith communities, and provide CERNER lists according to hospital policy
  • Serve on institutional committees as assigned
  • Provide staff support in times of crisis
  • Promote the interfaith/multifaith nature of hospital chaplaincy
  • Develop, coordinate and facilitate public worship or other observances appropriate to the diverse hospital setting and needs of the institution
  • Facilitate and monitor spirituality groups in a way that protects patient s safety and freedom of expression when sharing their views, beliefs and opinions
  • Contact patients/families/religious leaders upon request
  • Conduct self at all times in the manner that reflects positively on the image of the medical center
