The salary range for this role is:

$96,637.77 - $164,218.17

Responsibilities:

The Safety Manager leads the planning and actions needed to deliver Del Monte Foods commitment to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all our employees. The organization's ability to grow and enhance its safety and security standards depends on the Safety Manager's leadership. Our Safety Manager will be responsible for planning, supporting, and coordinating all health, safety, and security compliance activities at the Modesto facility. This role includes following corporate policies and federal, state, and local regulations.

The Safety Manager will work closely with Corporate and EHS Managers to develop, improve and implement policies for the Del Monte network, ensuring full compliance with all regulations. The Safety Manager will manage onsite personnel with EHS responsibilities, recommend changes to improve compliance, and increase employee engagement.

Leadership

  • Provides leadership for Modesto site Health, Safety and Security team, managing people, data, and budgets. Ensures continued compliance with safety regulations.
  • Partners with business leaders to implement, assess and improve programs and processes to minimize injuries and vehicle incidents.
  • Leads the Safety Team by utilizing key metrics to drive performance in Safety and Security across the organization.
  • Collaborates with site and corporate personnel in the management of policies and procedures, as well as recommending changes or development of new policies or procedures.
  • Coordinates functional initiatives with Safety Managers from other sites and Business Units.
  • Interfaces with governmental inspectors, agencies, and regulators to facilitate visits, address deficiencies and avoid citations and fines.
  • Participates in the annual EHS conference, quarterly webcasts, regional meetings, etc.
  • Develops and manages the Safety and Security department budget.

Audits

  • Ensures compliance with Safety and Security audits, inspections and risk assessments.
  • Analyzes audit results to verify adherence to corporate, business, and government standards.

Safety Programs, Procedures and Training

  • Develop programs, procedures, work instructions, and training.
  • Lead Safety and Security projects, audits, and inspections.
  • Audit regulated Safety policies annually or as needed.
  • Coordinate new employee Safety orientations.
  • Lead and oversee emergency response planning.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment weekly.

Safe Environment

  • Conduct and coordinate safety training.
  • Ensure policy compliance and track verifications.
  • Identify safety training needs for employees.
  • Manage job-specific training for employees and managers.
  • Develop programs to reduce injuries and promote safety.
  • Encourage employees to identify and report safety concerns, share ideas, and engage in training.

Evaluate the effectiveness of safety and security policies.

  • Secure facilities & grounds.
  • Develop and implement site security policies and practices.
  • Manage facility access and oversee security systems maintenance.
  • Enforce security policies, respond to emergencies, and investigate incidents with corrective actions.
  • Supervise, train, and develop security staff, ensuring 24/7 coverage and ongoing training.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, identify risks, and conduct security audits.
  • Align protocols with plant operations, communicate updates, and liaise with external agencies.
  • Prevent theft and safeguard critical equipment and products.
  • Develop emergency response plans and conduct preparedness drills.
  • Maintain incident records and prepare reports for management and agencies.

Local, State, and Federal Regulations

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including Cal OSHA and DOT.
  • Guide interpretation and implementation of safety regulations.
  • Conduct or coordinate worker training on safety laws and use of safety equipment.
  • Perform facility, machinery, and equipment safety audits.
  • Ensure vendor and contractor safety programs comply with corporate safety policies.

Site Hazard Assessment

  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain "Job Hazard Analysis" documentation.
  • Investigate incidents to identify root causes, report findings, and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform safety audits and inspections to identify and correct hazards.
  • Submit weekly and monthly Safety Reports including specified KPIs, such as TRIR, LTIR, Lag Time.

Emergency Response Plans

  • Conduct drills and ensure all employees are trained on emergency procedures.
  • Lead emergency response planning.
  • Assess organization's adherence to emergency response plans through coordinating drills.
  • Maintain safety inventory, including supplies and equipment.

Safety Practice Continuous Improvement

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and identify best practices.
  • Analyze incidents, gather feedback, and implement changes.
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, and mentoring to employees and leadership.
  • Stay updated on safety through professional development.
  • Maintain required reports and records.
  • Build effective network within the company and with external organizations by modeling Del Monte leadership behaviors.

Worker's Compensation

  • Partner with Corporate Workers' Compensation Manager in working with Workers' Compensation insurance carriers and internal/external legal resources.
  • Track incident injury reporting and claims.
  • Assist Supervisors with incident reports and ensure reports are submitted to Corporate Workers' Compensation Manager and HR.
  • Notify Site Director, Supervisor and Corporate EHSS in the event of an injury or change in status.
  • Partner with HR in processing claims and coordinating return to work evaluations.
  • Audit injured team member work restrictions and communicate restrictions to Supervisors.
  • Partner with HR in determining modified job duties to ensure a smooth transition back to work.
  • Collaborate with HR & Legal on documentation and OSHA cases.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene or comparable degree. Non- degreed candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of directly related work experience.
  • At least 7 years of related experience in manufacturing Safety; food manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Experience with behavioral based safety assessments and process.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, leverage strong organizational skills, and successfully deliver key initiatives.
  • Skilled in multi-functional collaboration leveraging strong positive teamwork attributes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially with Excel and Access
