Salary/Compensation Statement:

  • The position's full salary range is $94,871 to $140,432. New employees cannot be placed higher than $102,612 (step 3 on the salary grade) due to internal equity. The application is used to determine the initial salary placement for selected candidates. All employment and education history will be considered.
  • Our Management Benefits package includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability as well as paid sick leave and vacation time.
  • Lane Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Required QUALIFICATIONS


Required Education:
  • Master's Degree in psychology, counseling, social work or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
Required Experience:

  • Five (5) years experience working in a counseling center or related mental health support establishment.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Licensure or Certification Requirements

  • Fully license (or eligible) to provide counseling services in Oregon by the time of hire.
  • License in Professional Counseling (LPC, LCMHC, LPCC) or related mental health field (LCSW, LMFT)

Position Purpose:
The Director will be responsible for the overall direction, management, budgetary oversight, and supervision and leadership of clinical counseling faculty, classified professionals, interns, and student workers. The Mental Health and Wellness Center offers a broad range of clinical services to our students, which include individual counseling, group counseling, psychiatric services, psychological assessment, and referrals when necessary. The director will spend the majority of their time providing oversight for the programs within the MHWC which includes clinical services to students, entailing initial appointments, crisis intervention, individual counseling and case management activities. The Director is expected to promote the MHWC through creative activities, which may include presentations, tabling and other outreach.
The Mental Health and Wellness Center is housed in the Student Supports Unit in the Division of Student Affairs, and the Director of MHW will report to the Dean of Student Supports.
Essential Functions:
Clinical and Patient Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual, group, and crisis counseling sessions to address a variety of mental health concerns, including stress, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal challenges.
  • Create personalized treatment plans based on client assessments, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques and interventions to meet individual needs.
  • Perform comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk evaluations, and determine the appropriate level of care or referral for specialized services as necessary.
  • Accurately document counseling sessions, treatment plans, progress notes, and any required reports while ensuring compliance with ethical and legal confidentiality standards.
  • Ensures that the needs of students are addressed in emergency situations by coordinating and/or providing crisis intervention services during business hours.


Leadership and Supervision

  • Promotes a unified, consistent vision for the Mental Health and Wellness Center, in alignment with Division and College priorities.
  • Provide clinical supervision, guidance, and mentorship to Center staff and graduate-level interns, ensuring adherence to professional standards and fostering professional growth.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of counseling programs and services to address emerging mental health trends and campus-wide needs effectively.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, innovation, and student-centered service within the department.
  • Performs timely evaluations of assigned faculty, classified professionals, interns and student workers
  • Develops policies and procedures on the assessment, treatment, levels of care determination for students
  • Serves on the Threat Assessment and Titan Care Team and often participates in other college committees or groups.
  • Represents the College in regional and national higher education and health and wellness organizations and associations.
  • Actively ensure faculty have the necessary support, tools, and resources to conduct assessments of courses, programs, and student achievements.
  • Ensure the implementation of the College's Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunities concerning policies, goals, and timetables in assigned areas. Ensure staff development on diversity, inclusive climate, and respectful learning and working environment issues.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.

Collaboration and Relationship Development

  • Collaborate with college managers and other departments to develop strategic plans, allocate resources, and advance initiatives that support holistic student well-being and success.
  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and student organizations to create an integrated approach to student mental health and well-being.
  • Work closely with other campus professionals, such as health services staff, academic advisors, and residence life personnel, to coordinate comprehensive care for students.
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with local mental health agencies and community organizations to provide additional resources and referrals for students in need.
  • Actively engage in college committees, working groups, and initiatives to represent the Center's perspective and promote mental health awareness campus-wide.
  • Offer expert consultation to faculty, staff, and managers on recognizing and addressing student mental health issues, as well as on crisis management strategies.
  • Works closely with the staff and directors of the Student Health Clinic and the Center for Accessible Resources
  • Assists with the development and implementation of marketing and promotion plan(s) to drive student use of clinical services

Strategic Planning and Leadership

  • Create and execute a vision for counseling services that aligns with the college's mission, addressing the evolving mental health needs of the student population.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations of campus mental health trends and service demands to allocate resources effectively and identify priority areas for intervention and growth.
  • Collect, analyze, and utilize data from student usage, assessments, and program evaluations to guide strategic decisions, enhance services, and demonstrate effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement protocols for campus-wide mental health crises, including prevention strategies, training, and coordinated responses to ensure student safety and well-being.
  • Strategically manage counseling center resources, including staff workloads and operational budgets, while advocating for additional funding or support to meet growing campus needs.
  • Prepare annual budget recommendations with the participation of faculty and staff; execute assigned budget within the guidelines set by the college; set budget priorities for programs and services.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data to assess the effectiveness of mental health programs and services, ensuring alignment with student success and well-being outcomes.
  • Monitor and analyze student mental health data to identify emerging trends, unmet needs, and areas for service improvement.
  • Use data insights to inform institutional decision-making, resource allocation, and long-term planning for mental health services.
  • Provide detailed reports to stakeholders on key performance indicators, such as utilization rates, student satisfaction, and service outcomes.
  • Use data analysis to identify trends, gaps, and emerging mental health needs among the student population.

Compliance and Regulatory Affairs

  • Oversee adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA, FERPA, and ADA, to protect student privacy and ensure equitable access to mental health services.
  • Coordinate responses to critical incidents in accordance with legal mandates, ensuring proper documentation, reporting, and follow-up protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal laws, licensing board regulations, and professional ethical guidelines in all counseling operations and activities.
  • Responsible directly or by designation for ensuring that mental health and other records are maintained in compliance with college policies, state and federal requirements.

Professional Development and Training

  • Plan and facilitate ongoing training opportunities for mental health staff and student interns to enhance clinical skills, cultural competence, and adherence to evidence-based practices.
  • Design and implement mental health awareness and trauma informed care training for faculty, staff, and student leaders to recognize and respond effectively to mental health concerns.
  • Ensure clinical staff meet licensure and certification requirements by providing resources and opportunities for required professional development.
  • Offer specialized training in crisis intervention and management, trauma informed care, and de-escalation techniques to prepare staff and campus community for crisis and mental health situations.
  • Foster participation in regional or national professional organizations, conferences, and workshops to stay updated on best practices and industry trends.
  • Engage in lifelong learning: Pursue professional development, growth opportunities, and/or additional credentials to enhance one's own leadership, knowledge, effectiveness, in the field, etc.

Supervision Statement:
Reports to and works under the guidance of the Dean of Student Supports. Work is performed independently based on previous knowledge and professional judgment, according to local, State and federal regulations, applicable laws, College policies and program guidelines. Work is reviewed by the supervisor for the effective management of the project/program and the quality of services provided to the target population by staff.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that includes office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephone, and visitors. This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day.
  • This position may work with individuals who may be in crisis, having difficulty tracking, or in need of mental health support.
  • Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds or without support.
