Neuro ICU Unit Manager

Job Summary:

  • The Nurse Manager of the Neuro ICU facilitates the realization of the organization's mission, strategic plan, and values at the point of care. Plans for, leads, coordinates and facilitates the provision of quality care and service for a defined population of patients and facilitates the procurement of appropriate supplies/equipment and provides for adequate numbers and mix of staff to deliver nursing care.
  • The Nurse Manager demonstrates excellence in problem solving, leadership, communication, fiscal responsibility and teamwork.
  • The Nurse Manager provides leadership, consultation and collaboration in a dynamic, multidisciplinary teaching environment.
  • Collaborates with administrators and other members of the health care team to design, evaluate and improve patient care systems and processes.
  • Supports nursing professional development, Magnet, and Shared Governance through participation in, and mentoring of colleagues, on councils and the Clinical Ladder program.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Recognizes the patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Plans, Directs and Coordinates nursing care for a specific patient care area in collaboration with the Nursing Director and other appropriate nursing leaders and professional develop staff.
  • Recruits, interviews and selects staff for the patient care unit.
  • Provides leadership and direction in implementation of strategic goals and objectives.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

  • Effective Communication- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques, ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and health care.
  • Patient-and Family-Centered Practice- Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family and/or designated care partner in care.
  • Cultural Awareness- Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree preferred. Specialty/leadership certification preferred (for example CCRN, CEN, NE-BC, other) within 2 years of hire

AND

Experience:

  • 3+ years acute care experience required; experience in a similar or 'like' unit is preferred:
  • Demonstrated leadership and management potential.

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice; BLS required based on organizational guidelines/polices. ACLS and PALS as required by department.
  • Certification in specialty preferred
