PURPOSE

Responsible for managing the people, work, and processes of the Estimating Department across multiple locations and product types. Manages daily pricing activities in cooperation with sales management and supply chain. Maximizes estimating resources thru daily and long-term planning. Implements new policies and procedures to further new initiatives. Maintains highest standards of integrity and accuracy throughout entire bidding process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Leads the estimating process to ensure that processes and work results meet/exceed company standards.
  • Distributes and coordinates work between multiple estimating locations. Manages the estimators and estimating team schedules; ensures deadlines are met or exceeded.
  • Works closely with Offshore Design Manager and other California Estimating Manager/s to balance estimating work between teams.
  • Provides general lead time estimates for the sales team weekly or as required for individual projects.
  • Coordinates with sales management and supply chain to execute sales strategies via market-focused pricing and sourcing.
  • Solicits additional feedback from sales management, supply chain, sales, and other departments to improve performance and processes.
  • Communicates schedule changes proactively with sales staff. Works with sales to obtain information needed to complete estimates.
  • Ensures estimating department is soliciting design feedback, repricing plan changes and confirming project profitability throughout the life of each project.
  • Holds weekly design meetings for staff.
  • Assists in recruiting and training new estimators.
  • Promotes continuous estimator growth with planned training and team assignments.
  • Promotes and confirms the use of new company procedures, technology, and goals.
  • Generate weekly and monthly department performance statistics and assist with the implementation and administration of the monthly team member incentives.
  • Complete timely performance reviews and give ongoing performance feedback to team members.
  • Provide warnings and corrective actions to employees as required.
  • Regular visits to BFS component facilities. Additional travel as necessary. Demonstrates leadership abilities and represents the company in a professional manner when visiting customers or attending company functions.
  • Other duties as assigned



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises the Estimating Department across various locations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.




  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school (Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred)
  • 6-8 years of directly related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous managerial and training experience required.
  • Resides in assigned area within commuting distance of one of the BFS component facilities.



COMPETENCIES

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of algebraic theory and plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, margins, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills: Must be proficient in all Windows Office programs as well as Adobe or Bluebeam. CAD experience or similar, preferred.

Design/Estimating Skills: Highly skilled in design and estimating concepts. Expert in interpreting project blueprints. Understanding of current codes and their effect on material usage.

Management Skills: Ability to lead teams, create a good working environment, motivate individuals, and implement change.

Other Qualifications: Knowledge of wood frame construction. Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities.
