Mechanical Engineer Senior/Specialist/Principal
Overview The successful candidate will contribute to the design and construction support of the VIRGINIA Class submarine program at Electric Boat's Groton Shipyard. This individual will be cognizant of a variety of components and/or systems that are on-board VIRGINIA Class submarines. Waterfront Mechanical Engineering's primary areas of expertise include the following:
Internal mechanical systems such as weapons shipping and handling, the torpedo tubes and the payload tubes
Waterfront Mechanical Engineering's role is to provide engineering and design oversight for drawings, components, and systems. A Waterfront Engineer must also engage in a collaborative working relationship with the Electric Boat Design Union to maintain the VIRGINIA Class design drawings. A Waterfront Engineer will be asked to support the procurement of some components and systems, troubleshoot systems during new construction, and also provide engineering support of the systems during post-delivery service periods. Newly hired engineers will be assigned a mentor for a period to assist in learning the Engineering duties and on the job training will be provided to ensure procedure compliance and safety.
