Key Responsibilities:

  • Lab Space Planning and Design:

    • Collaborate with Lab Leads and other stakeholders to gather requirements and understand the unique needs of each lab space.

    • Manage incoming requests for new lab spaces and lab modifications, ensuring alignment with client needs, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and budget constraints.

    • Oversee the design and layout of lab spaces, considering factors such as workflow, safety, equipment requirements, and future expansion.

    • Partner with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure that lab designs are translated into functional and efficient spaces.

  • Lab Operations and Optimization:

    • Conduct comprehensive audits of existing lab spaces to capture critical data, including space classification, available infrastructure, key contacts, and utilization rates.

    • Analyze audit data to identify opportunities for optimization, such as consolidation of underutilized spaces, reconfiguration of existing labs, or implementation of shared resource models.

    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive lab operations playbook that outlines best practices, standard operating procedures, and safety protocols.

    • Continuously evaluate and update the playbook to incorporate lessons learned, new technologies, and evolving industry standards.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting:

    • Develop and maintain lab space utilization reports and dashboards to track key metrics, such as occupancy rates, equipment utilization, and energy consumption.

    • Leverage data insights to inform decision-making, optimize resource allocation, and identify areas for cost savings.

    • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management and other stakeholders on lab space utilization, operational efficiency, and key performance indicators.

  • Compliance and Safety:

    • Ensure that all lab spaces are designed, constructed, and operated in compliance with relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.

    • Stay abreast of changes in regulations and standards and implement necessary updates to lab operations and procedures.

    • Collaborate with safety officers and other relevant personnel to conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.

  • Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

    • Stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and innovative technologies in lab design, construction, and operation.

    • Identify and evaluate new technologies and approaches that could enhance lab efficiency, safety, or sustainability.

    • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the lab program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in lab management, design, construction, or a related field.

  • Proven track record of successful project management, including experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.

  • Strong understanding of lab safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather and interpret data to inform decision-making.

  • Familiarity with commercial real estate processes, space planning principles, and construction management.

  • Knowledge of sustainable lab practices, energy efficiency measures, and green building standards.

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and project management software.

  • Certification in project management (PMP), LEED, or a lab-related field is a plus.

Additional Information

This position may require occasional travel to visit lab sites and attend industry conferences. The Lab Program Manager will report to Technical Services and will work closely with a team of OP/MAC, engineers, contractors, and lab personnel.

Estimated total compensation for this position: 120,000.00 - 150,000.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
