Job Summary

Involves revenue cycle functions for the healthcare enterprise, including project management, charge reconciliation, and revenue analysis of all new business onboarding to Revenue Cycle non-affiliates. Ensures all necessary expansion and integration projects impacting the Revenue Cycle have met the necessary steps before going live for timely and successful billing and collections. Quantifies impact of expansions and integrations to leadership, including VP Revenue Cycle and UCSF Health CFO.

Collaborates with stakeholders in all areas of the Revenue Cycle as well as across numerous departments within the health system. Leads/participates in projects and initiatives led by the Revenue Cycle Strategy Team (RCST) across Revenue Cycle departments to support operational success. Oversees or assists with other projects impacting the Revenue Cycle, whether it be billing-related, Revenue Cycle-wide projects, or organizational initiatives.

Leads projects related to UCSF Health's new business requiring charge reconciliation, insurance billing, and AR management and proposes new programs and policies by best practices. Manages UCSF Health's new business projects at all levels of complexity and scope. Leads meetings to review projects implemented and in the pipeline to ensure the financial viability of each project based on Strategic constraints.

Provide analytic support, problem-solving, and communication on all matters about business expansions and integrations, as well as lead improvement efforts based on extensive Rev Cycle experience. Create/improve existing expansion documentation, including workflow, process, reference, and playbook materials, to ensure the process is optimized and historical knowledge preserved.

Complete complex analysis related to professional fee billing. Provide recommendations for improvement in denials, accounts receivable, and avoidable write-offs. Implement recommendations upon the Director and/or VP approval of project planning.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The annual salary range for this position is $87,900-$187,000. Note: This is a part-time, limited position working 25%, not to exceed 1,000 hours in 12 months. Also, benefits are not offered for this position.

Department Description

The Revenue Cycle Strategy Team (RCST) is responsible for revenue optimization through projects and initiatives that cross Revenue Cycle areas of expertise. RCST manages project intake for the department and is the primary contact point for the other Revenue Cycle departments (i.e., Patient Access, Revenue Management, Medical Group Business Services, and Patient Financial Services) related to new strategic initiatives launched by UCSF Health Strategy, BCH Oakland, or clinical departments across the organization. RCST manages and executes approximately 20 new business expansions/integrations each fiscal year. Lastly, RCST ensures administrative oversight and alignment for the 400+ employees within UCSF Health's Revenue Cycle, a five billion annual operation.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or four years of equivalent experience/training.
  • Five or more years of related healthcare revenue cycle experience or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the practices, procedures, and concepts of the healthcare revenue cycle and its component operations, including billing, collections, charge capture, contractual
  • adjustments, third-party reimbursements, and cash management.
  • In-depth understanding of the issues, processes, reporting instruments, metrics, dashboard design, and other tools and techniques involved with measuring and analyzing the revenue cycle.
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.
  • Advanced skills in report development, dashboard design, and various software tools specific
  • to healthcare revenue cycle management. Skills in common database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Advanced communications skills, with the ability to interpret and convey complex clinical finance information in a clear, concise manner. Ability to prepare compelling and informative reports and presentations to all levels of staff and management.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of workflows and systems in revenue cycle program areas to identify weaknesses and develop innovative solutions and process improvements.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively on highly complex projects in a team environment with a wide variety of business and clinical areas.
  • Strong ability to advise management, serving as a technical expert, providing proposals for improvement and guidance on regulatory changes and industry trends and developments in revenue cycle management.
