Job Summary
Applies basic and some advanced technical skills and knowledge to set up and operate a numerical control machine to cut, shape, or form metallic and nonmetallic work pieces to specifications.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
- Performs tasks that are simple to moderately complex requiring some skill, experience and judgment to complete.
- Reviews setup sheets and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece. Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture according to setup instructions.
- Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine spindles as specified or inserts cutting tools in specified machine magazines.
- Enters commands to retrieve pre-programmed machine instructions from database and machine control console.
- Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and start machine. Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
- Changes cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in setup instructions. Measures work piece for conformance to specifications.
Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Education Requirements
Minimum High School or GED. Minimum Other. Formal technical training in operating computer numerically controlled production machines. If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement.Experience Requirements 2 year(s) Skills and Competencies
- Must be able to read and write the English language and learn to interpret and comprehend company policies, procedures, safety instructions, planning and work instructions, blueprints, assembly and fabrication orders, engineering specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, and other like documents used in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
- Basic understanding of computers, preferably with CNC machine interface and operating software such as AutoCad and MasterCam.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
