Job Summary

Corewell Health is seeking a Labor Relations Manager. This role will manage labor relations team members and initiatives within the Labor Relations Team. The Labor Relations Manager will support the labor strategy, including development of positive employee relations initiatives to strengthen the long-term relationship between the health system and its 60,000 team members; implementation of labor/management strategy; development of any organizing campaign response; negotiation, interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements, development of union and labor relations-related training in compliance with labor law. The Labor Relations Manager will also advise and collaborate with leadership and members of the Human Resources team on applicable labor law, the current labor environment and legislative trends. Represents Corewell Health in grievances, mediation and arbitration.

Key Role Functions and Responsibilities

  • Supports Corewell Health's positive team member strategy, including risk assessment and mitigation, issue identification and resolution, and other team member relations initiatives.

  • Coaches, mentors, supervises, and develops Labor Relations team members for both labor relations content and desired competencies. Ensures that priorities are established to meet organizational needs. Supports the implementation of key activities. Ensures responsiveness and an exceptional experience on requests for services, information, records, and data while managing the legality of such releases.

  • Partners with inside and outside legal counsel as necessary on union-related matters.

  • Supports organizational response to union organizing campaigns and election petitions.

  • Develops and provides training to Human Resources and leadership aimed at building internal capabilities on a wide range of labor/union-related subjects.

  • Supports the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements.

  • Supports the grievance process to ensure contractual rights are upheld.

  • Supports preparation of cases for arbitrations, administrative hearings, and trials.

  • Partners to ensure compliance with federal and state laws regarding employment and labor-related matters.

  • Communicates proactively on labor environment and legislative trends.

  • Works closely with Human Resources and others to develop and maintain partnerships for effective administration of labor relations.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Five years of relevant experience within employee and labor relations working with labor unions.

  • Two years of relevant experience must have been in a project management, supervisory, or managerial capacity. Required

  • The position has significant field-based responsibilities and may require local travel. Required

  • Experience with unions/ and union organizing campaigns. Required

  • Experience negotiating Collective Bargaining Agreements. Required

  • Experience conducting employee investigations. Required

  • Experience with resolution of grievances and the arbitration process. Required

  • Bachelor's Degree from and accredited college or university. Required

Preferred

  • Preferred Master's Degree in industrial Relations, labor relations or similar discipline.
