About the Job

The Tech Comm Strategic Operations Specialist will report to the Associate Vice President for Research and Innovation within the Technology Commercialization office. This role is responsible for managing critical operational processes and HR-related activities to ensure the smooth execution of strategic initiatives.

This position is limited to no more than 14.00 work hours per week.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process student and staff offer letters and HR materials as needed.
  • Submit background checks for new hires.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for RIO HR, attending monthly meetings and responding to ad hoc requests.
  • Prepare and process summer offer letters for interns.
  • Draft renewal letters for P&A employees and merit increase letters for civil service staff.
  • Ensure all staff and managers complete End-of-Year (EOY) reviews in the Performance Appraisal Tool (PAT).
  • Calculate final goal metrics for the previous fiscal year.
  • Draft Variable Pay Plan (VPP) letters for employees.
  • Update the Variable Pay Plan Policy and Procedure, and distribute.

Time spent working remotely is 100% with occasional but inconsistent presence in UMN locations. Collaborative or shared on campus work space to be provided while on campus.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
BA/BS degree with at least ten years of experience in human resources, operations, or a related administrative field.
Experience working in a Technology Commercialization Office
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in HR systems, workflow management, and data tracking.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education or research administration.
Familiarity with performance appraisal tools and HR policies.
Knowledge of university HR and finance policies and procedures.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $90.00 per hour
