JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Cognitive Aging and Neuroimaging (CAN) Lab within the Department of Psychology at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to start Summer 2025, with flexibility.

Current projects in the lab center around understanding the cognitive and neural processes underlying false memories and associative memories. With respect to cognitive aging, our research examines neural markers of age-related cognitive decline, as well as mechanisms supporting neural compensation. Regarding neuroimaging, we utilize univariate, multivariate (pattern classification, representational similarity analyses), functional connectivity, and structural analytical approaches in our investigation of encoding and retrieval processes underlying memory performance.

Information about all of our research, including ongoing projects, can be found on our lab website at https://canlab.la.psu.edu/.

ThePostdoctoral Scholar will work on an NIH-funded project that aims to understand the neural basis of associative memory in aging, with studies focused on mitigating age-related memory deficits. The position involves neuroimaging data collection and analysis, mentoring students, and writing research papers for publication.

Postdoctoral Scholars receive mentorship and resources to prepare them for an independent career, including advanced training in fMRI analyses, cognitive aging, memory, and cognitive functioning.

They also engage in professional development activities such as writing manuscripts and grants, presenting at conferences, and receiving career planning guidance. Funding is available to support conference travel and other professional development opportunities.

Requirements include a PhD in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field, with a record of publications. Applicants must have the PhD in hand by the appointment date. This is a non-tenure-track, term position for one year with an excellent possibility of renewal.

In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

Interested candidates must submit an online application and should upload the following application materials: a letter of interest, CV or resume, and a list of three references with contact information. All inquiries about the position can be sent to Dr. NancyDennis, Department of Psychology, atnad12@psu.edu.

The Pennsylvania State Universityis committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusion that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engage all individuals to help them thrive.
