Waldo Hospital is offering temporary full-time summer employment to Nursing Students (CNAs) who will be entering their senior year through approximately a 10-week summer program. From the beginning of June to the middle of August, you will work in our caring, nurturing environment under the guidance of experienced registered nurses within our clinical settings. This position is generally 32 to 36 hours per week.

*Start and end dates will vary for internal candidates.

As a participant in the Waldo Hospital Summer Student Nurse Extern program you will participate in collaborative nursing practice and increase proficiency while working within the scope of CNA practice. The transition from being a student to a new graduate nurse can be challenging, so you may get a head start by taking advantage of this unique opportunity! Already a CNA? Enhance your current practice with opportunities in other clinical settings!

Eligibility:

The Summer Student Nurse Associate program is open to any nursing student who meets one of the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of the junior year of a BSN nursing program and be on the State of Maine CNA Registry.
  • Successful completion of the first year of an ADN program and be on the State of Maine CNA Registry.

Summary:
The Student Nurse Extern (SNE) is enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program. The SNE provides the appropriate level of patient care in various settings, under the on-site delegation and supervision of a registered professional nurse

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program. Reference is required from Nursing Chair/Dean or enrollment in an externship for senior practicum NUR course credit
  2. License/Certifications: Must be certified as a Nursing Assistant and be on the State of Maine Registry or equivalent (registered out-of-state). Must have proof of Basic Life Support.
  3. Experience:Experience: Must complete first year of ADN or junior level course requirements of BSN in an accredited nursing program in good academic standing to be eligible to apply.
