HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development.

This position will be in support of the Protein Biomarkers to Inform Optimization of PTSD Therapeutics to Inform Clinical Trials (ProBIOPTIC) project. This project aims to investigate how blood-based biomarkers relate to post-traumatic stress disorder symptom presentation following a traumatic event in service members and veterans. This project brings together an interdisciplinary team of investigators with expertise in blood-based biomarkers of central nervous system disorders, indicators of recovery, and psychological health assessment and treatment. The methods are highly unique in that they involve utilization of prospectively uniformly collected blood specimens and utilize the most novel objective measures available, including (1) isolating peripherally circulating, neuronally-derived exosomes, enhancing specificity of the signal, (2) using a novel, non-biased technique that comprehensively examines thousands of candidate protein biomarkers, and (3) employing gold-standard structured interview assessments for PTSD.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
  • Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures.
  • Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.
  • Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree in a scientific discipline required.
  • Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual pay range for this position is $50,100-$75,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
