GENERAL SUMMARY:

Kinecta Credit Union is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Director of Financial Planning & Analysis. This role is responsible for driving the organization's forecasting, budgeting, financial planning, and financial analysis processes, aligning strategic initiatives with long-term financial goals, and delivering actionable insights to executive leadership. This position also involves mentoring a pool of rotating analysts, building their skills in financial modeling, data analysis, and financial analysis for strategic decision-making.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis reports to the SVP, Chief Financial Officer and Head of Corporate Strategy and partners closely with Accounting, Treasury, Risk Analytics and Business Intelligence functions. This role serves as a key advisor to leadership, ensuring financial processes are streamlined and aligned with the organization's mission. The Director supervises a rotation of analysts, ensuring they gain meaningful exposure to the Financial Planning & Analysis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities. The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis is authorized to take any reasonable action necessary to carry out the assigned responsibilities, provided that such action is consistent with sound management and cost-effective practices and is consistent with the policy and procedures of the Finance Department and Kinecta Federal Credit Union in general. The following positions typically report to this position:

  • Senior Financial Analyst
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Lead the development and execution of the annual budgeting process, quarterly forecasts, and long-term financial planning, ensuring alignment with Kinecta's strategic and operational goals.
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial performance reports, variance analyses, and key financial metrics, providing leadership with timely, accurate, and actionable insights.
  • Establish and maintain business unit P&Ls, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to enhance financial transparency and drive accountability.
  • Identify and recommend cost optimization strategies, revenue growth opportunities, and operational efficiencies, ensuring long-term financial sustainability.
  • Partner with Accounting and the Enterprise Data Warehouse team to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across financial systems.

Strategic Finance & Business Decision Support

  • Develop and evaluate financial models, scenario analyses, and business cases to support strategic initiatives, resource allocation, and return-on-investment assessments.
  • Collaborate with Risk Analytics to integrate risk considerations into financial planning and with Treasury to support capital planning, liquidity management, and balance sheet optimization.
  • Conduct stress testing and sensitivity analyses to evaluate potential risks and opportunities, informing proactive decision-making.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support the development, execution, and assessment of the credit union's strategic plan.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Business Partnering

  • Serve as a trusted finance partner to department leaders and product teams, offering data-driven insights to inform decision-making and optimize financial outcomes.
  • Work closely with Accounting, Treasury, Risk Analytics, and Data & Analytics to enhance financial reporting, improve operational tracking, and refine performance measurement frameworks.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives focused on strategic growth, new product development, and resource optimization, ensuring finance is integrated into key business decisions.
  • Present financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership and board committees, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.

Financial Systems & Process Optimization

  • Lead efforts to enhance FP&A systems and tools, leveraging technology to improve forecasting accuracy, reporting efficiency, and financial decision-making.
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to streamline budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance financial data accessibility and reporting capabilities, ensuring finance delivers high-impact, real-time insights.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs other duties including special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting, with advanced proficiency in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and decision support.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, track, and refine key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial dashboards to drive business performance.
  • Experience with business intelligence (BI) tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and familiarity with SQL or Python for financial data analysis is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for executives, board members, and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven leadership experience with a strong track record of mentoring, coaching, and developing high-performing finance teams.
  • Strategic and analytical mindset, capable of balancing short-term priorities with long-term financial objectives.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with senior executives, product teams, and business leaders to drive financial performance.
  • Familiarity with financial planning and reporting systems such as Adaptive Insights, Anaplan, or Vena preferred.

Education, Training and Experience:

Potential candidates for this position must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Completion of CFA Level 1 preferred, with an intention to complete the CFA program, or equivalent experience in financial modeling, valuation, or capital planning.
  • 8+ years of experience in FP&A, strategic finance, or a related area, with a demonstrated ability to lead high-visibility initiatives.
  • Experience in the financial services or credit union industry is strongly preferred.

One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
  • The job may require flexibility with regards to scheduling days, hours, and work location, depending on business needs.
  • The job is typically sedentary but may require standing and walking up to 35% of the work time to transfer files, ask questions, and related activities.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES, MENTAL DEMANDS, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to exercise sound judgment, effectively plan and be well organized, have excellent oral and written communications skills, work well under changing timelines, take the initiative and be flexible and cooperative. Accuracy, timeliness and maintaining confidentiality related to member, employee information and company records is required.

While performing the job duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit; talk or hear in person and by telephone; use hands to operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; lift minimum 10 lbs.

The employee is frequently required to walk and stand. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus to read and operate office equipment, as necessary. The employee works under typical office conditions and noise levels.
