We are looking for candidates who are excited to address the full spectrum of user experience challenges, from design to accessibility to content and beyond; enjoy working collaboratively to design and test work; and want hands-on experience with the full product development lifecycle, from discovery to implementation. If you are motivated to learn and ready to build a meaningful career providing valuable services within the Commonwealth, we want to meet you!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

At the Commonwealth Office of Digital Experience (CODE PA), we address complex problems to improve online interactions between people and government services. We are in the process of assembling a dream team of ambitious students to improve forms across the state - an initiative we have appropriately titled the Forms that Suck Less internship.

Across the Pennsylvania government, forms often lead to a frustrating experience for both the constituent and state agencies. What may seem like a simple task, such as designing a form, actually requires balancing technical, legal, and user needs. This internship is designed to tackle these challenges by mentoring undergraduate students who will work on assessing and improving form experiences across the state.

Learning opportunities may include:

  • Bringing a user-centered approach to improving digital processes.
  • Conducting light-weight research with internal/external users.
  • Synthesizing research findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Testing designs to meet digital accessibility standards.
  • Providing input into requirements definition, content strategy, and visual design.
  • Sharing design concepts, from low-fidelity wireframes through interactive prototypes.
  • Presenting work and demoing to project stakeholders while explaining design decisions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time internship running for 12 weeks from May 26, 2025 - August 8, 2025, 35 hours/week.
  • Work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
