The research in the Zhuang laboratory is aimed at developing imaging methods and applying them to problems of biomedical interest. The lab's current research is focused on developing spatial genomics, genome-scale imaging, and super-resolution imaging methods and applying these methods to study neurobiology and cell biology. About the Lab Manager role:

You will hold an integral role within a growing lab environment- managing the day-to-day operations involved in running the lab, participating in the research, and serving as both a collaborative partner to Dr. Zhuang and the primary liaison between lab colleagues and staff members at Harvard University. The successful candidate will have a background in life sciences and be committed to fostering a positive work culture.

What You'll Do:

  • Maintain proper stock of lab supplies and organize lab supply inventory.

  • Keep records of equipment maintenance and organize the maintenance of lab equipment when necessary.

  • Be responsible for record keeping of lab's documents, including SOP for equipment's and common lab procedures, chemical inventory, personnel training records, etc.

  • Act as liaison between the Zhuang lab and HHMI and host institution administrative offices on issues such as fixed asset inventories, purchasing, use of host accounts, etc.

  • Act as liaison between lab and host safety and regulatory offices to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

  • Train incoming personnel in proper lab conduct. May train others in technical areas and complex processes.

  • May carry out research project. May evaluate new techniques and technology.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field.

  • Previous experience in lab management: Three or more years of laboratory experience including at least one year of supervisory experience.

  • Previous experience training other people in lab practices and various protocols.

  • Strong sense of self-motivation, responsibility, integrity, adaptability, trustworthiness, and leadership.

  • Passion for efficiency, operational excellence, and process improvement.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, time management, and teamwork skills.

  • Experience and knowledge of cell culture is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances.

Compensation Range

$78,320.00 (minimum) - $97,900.00 (midpoint) - $127,270.00 (maximum)

Pay Type:

Annual

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal consistency when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
