Position Summary:

Under the Office of University Marketing, the Social Media Specialist handles University-wide social media and similar digital platforms, monitors engagement, handles inquiries, develops communications strategy and content calendars, and creates and publishes relevant content. This position will also handle internal paid advertising and prepare/disseminate relevant analytics to track use and effectiveness of social media posts and paid advertising. This position will also source and maintain testimonials and success stories for students, alumni and others for use in social media and other marketing and communication channels (e.g., website). They will also provide support to other University Marketing team members, including administrative support to University Marketing Director, as needed. This position is supervised by the Associate Director of University Marketing.

Typical work hours are 7:45 to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, as well as evenings and weekends as needed. A hybrid work schedule may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly maintain, monitor, and optimize the University's primary social media accounts, acting in accordance with established guidelines and procedure to ensure consistency, accuracy, quality, brand and promptness in posting and response. Seek guidance and direction from University Marketing leadership and others where warranted.
  • Develop and maintain content calendar and supporting resources to plan, publish and track content across multiple social media platforms.
  • Respond to social media inquiries, connecting community members with relevant faculty and staff as needed.
  • Oversee internal social media advertising campaigns.
  • Lead the generation of imagery, video, and textual content for use in social media. Collaborate with University Marketing members to encourage multi-channel use of content where appropriate, repurposing or supplementing existing content from their projects to social media, and vice versa.
  • Manage social media KPIs and analytics, communicating them with stakeholders where warranted. Download leads from social media campaigns. Provide internal analysis, and testing where reasonable, of content, engagement, analytics, and leads to determine success, ROI, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Monitor the University's secondary accounts. Connect with, advise, and recommend best practices to secondary social media page managers.
  • Monitor UWO's presence and sentiment via available social media listening tools.
  • Monitor competitor social media.
  • Monitor emerging trends, platforms, and technologies. Collaborate with University Marketing leadership and others on strategy, guidelines, and policy related to social media.
  • Complete University Marketing project requests related to social media content and advertising.
  • Source and maintain testimonials and success stories for students, alumni and others for use in social media and other marketing channels (e.g., website).
  • Support website content and serve as backup for web-related requests.
  • Support Google and similar local listings.
  • Provide video production support for University Marketing.
  • Follow approved brand identity and related guidelines.
  • Support all functions of the University Marketing department as needed or assigned, including website, design, online/email communications, events, photography shoots, interviews, meetings, and projects.
  • Provide administrative support to University Marketing director as needed.

Qualifications
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in either marketing, communications, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of practical experience in social media or marketing/communications, including organic and paid social.
  • Employment experience working with social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Snapchat and TikTok.
  • Familiarity with new and emerging social media platforms and trends.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.


Preferred:

  • Work experience in higher education.
  • Experience creating/using content calendars for social media.
  • Experience drawing conclusions from and reporting on social media analytics.
  • Familiarity with still photography and video production/editing.
  • Design experience, including the use of Adobe Creative Cloud and similar tools to create content.
  • Familiarity with web design using a content management system and/or HTML/CSS.
