Position Purpose







Under the direction of the Cancer Center Director and the VP for the Institute of Cancer (IFC) and as a member of the Renown Medical Group (RMG), the Section Chief Medical Oncology will mentor, supervise and direct the employed medical oncology staff. He/she will work directly and jointly with all providers within the Institute for Cancer, as well as those in the community. Direct Reports include physicians and/or advanced practice clinicians within Medical Oncology/Cancer Services and Infusion Services. The role will need to work effectively within matrix relationships and with other Clinical Integrated Health Network (CIHN) leadership.









Nature and Scope







In this highly visible role, the Section Chief Medical Oncology is responsible for leading Renown Health's (RH) Medical Oncology and he/she will have oversight of RH's Infusion Services. Cancer Care at RH encompasses the continuum of care from prevention and screening, to end of life. The role will be instrumental in developing patient centered approaches that offer treatment and management options derived from evidenced based data. Additionally the Section Chief will champion clinical research and trials to ensure that RH's IFC becomes a regional leader of academic cancer care. He/she will also actively support the educational mission of RH as well as that of the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine. The incumbent will guide processes that achieve improvement in the quality of patient care through evidence-based clinical practices and promote best practices in an integrative model of care. Further responsibilities include strategic planning, provider (including physician) recruitment, development and performance, operational and financial management, customer/service improvement, accreditation, and clinical outcomes. The Medical Oncology Section Chief is responsible for ensuring the highest standards in patient safety, patient and family satisfaction, and referring physician communication. This role will drive oncology clinical integration initiatives within the practice and coordinate throughout the Integrated Health Network for the items including but not limited to Accountable Care, Medical Home Order Sets & Pathways.

The position will be responsible for educating providers around key initiatives and strategies for the CIHN as they relate to Medical Oncology and Infusion Services.

This position will work directly with the VP for the IFC and the Administrator of Oncology Services to create a premier Institute for Cancer Service Line for RH and the community.

This position does provide direct patient care.

Description



Education:



Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Medical Degree from an accredited Medical School required. Advanced degree in business desirable.



Experience:



Minimum of three to five years leadership experience in acute health care facility and/or an integrated health network. Preference given to those candidates with previous medical leadership experience with an integrated health network.



License(s):



Must possess and maintain a current and valid State of Nevada Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) medicine license. Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required.



Certification(s):



Board Certification in either Hematology/Medical Oncology, Hematology, or Medical Oncology required, or Board-Certified within one (1) year of eligibility.

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Certification Life Support (ACLS) required. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA) approved certification, but will accept online certification from American Red Cross Training Services, Advanced Medical Certification, or ACLS Certification Institute.



Computer / Typing:



Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word as well as ability to utilize Electronic Medical Record system and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.





Ability to credential through Renown's Medical Staff and/or payor credentialing, as applicable.
