DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will oversee semi-skilled laborers while managing the maintenance of grounds and repair of related equipment. You will ensure the proper upkeep of lawns, shrubbery, walkways, fences, parking lots, and other areas, all while complying with relevant codes and regulations. Your duties will include supervising activities such as planting, watering, fertilizing, trimming, and cleaning, as well as leading snow and ice control efforts. You will plan landscaping projects, operate various hand and power tools, and instruct staff on safety. Additionally, you will manage work priorities, transport residents and materials, and make decisions based on your experience and training.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in performing manual labor, semi-skilled labor or maintenance work, including two years of experience as a lead worker; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience as a skilled laborer
  • Lead work experience
  • Experience working with landscaping projects or mowing with commercial equipment
  • Experience working in the PM maintenance and repair of small engines, i.e. mowers, saws, weed eaters
  • Experience in commercial snow/ice removal of buildings, sidewalks, parking lots, using salt spreaders, snow blower, plows, skid loader, front end loader
  • Experience understanding construction methods, ability to read and interpret blueprints, and plans, knowledge of safety procedures and protocols
  • Experience in minor carpentry, masonry, and other related trades
  • Experience with the provisions of Uniform Construction Code (UCC), as it relates to repairs of buildings exteriors
  • Experience working outdoors in all types of weather and adverse conditions
  • Experience supervising union covered employees

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
