Overview

Orrick is looking for a Licensing Paralegal who is ready to join a dynamic team of licensing professionals providing comprehensive solutions designed to directly address the unique challenges faced by fintechs and other financial services companies. This position is located in our Santa Monica office.

The Opportunity: Under the direction of the Paralegal Manager and Attorneys, the Licensing Paralegal will work across offices to support the licensing group and is primarily responsible for managing license application filing, drafting license applications, preparing and updating licensing applications, organizing document compilations, tracking project status information, interacting with clients as needed to obtain relevant information, interacting with state and federal regulators, and handling all aspects of licensing project management. This individual will provide support with ongoing projects and requests and coordinate delegation of tasks to Orrick Analytics Project Assistants related to preparing license applications, as needed, as well as work with third-party vendors to advance the license applications. Note that this is not a traditional paralegal position given the responsibilities, but Orrick paralegals are expected to cross train to support multiple practice groups as required.


Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing and updating state financial services license applications and secretary of state filings.
  • Track informational requests to client and from state and federal regulators as appropriate.
  • Prepare foreign qualifications, examination responses, periodic reports, renewals, and ongoing compliance filings.
  • Correspond with and prepare correspondence to client, state, and federal regulators.
  • Compile filings, scan filings, and send filings to regulators.
  • Manage filing records.
  • Review and analyze regulatory notifications.
  • Conducting legal research.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Effective delegation and collaboration skills.
  • Must be able to work overtime, including weekends as needed.
  • Ability to be physically present in the office to process licensing applications.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or commensurate work experience is required
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved training program is preferable
  • 1-3 years office administrative, legal, compliance, financial services, and/or licensing experience is a plus
  • High technology aptitude
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent time management and organizational skills, attention to detail, a positive outlook and must be a self-starter. The ability to manage a high-volume workload, and to effectively interface with various levels of personnel is critical to operational success.
  • Must have proficiency using PDF software and strong experience with using the Microsoft Office 365 suite of programs.
  • Nationwide Multi-State Licensing System and Registry experience is a plus.

California Requirements: In the California offices, paralegals must meet the qualifications, including compliance with the continuing education requirements, as set forth in the California Business and Professions Code, Section 6450 et seq.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is between $50,000 - $69,000.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
