Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry's rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used.

Supply Chain interns work alongside the Procurement, Warehouse Operations, and Supply Chain Analytics teams to support internal clients with the purchasing and handling of goods and services.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Applies CPS Energy Procurement Policy, Procedures and Guidelines and basic Texas Laws, Codes and Regulations to procurement activities.
  • Works with Internal Customers on needs and requirements.
  • Assist Procurement and Supply Chain Analytics teams with contract development.
  • Reviews Purchase Requisitions for applicable forms and documents and to verify accuracy, terminology and specifications.
  • Supports Procurement Agents with internal customer support for development of scopes of work, change orders, specifications, commercial & regulatory considerations, Requests for Proposals, Requests for Quotations, Invitations for Bids, and Requests for Qualifications to meet Business Unit needs.
  • Supports document control efforts for the Procurement team ensuring the proper management, classification, and retention of official records and documents.
  • Works with internal customers and suppliers to encourage local, diverse and small business participation in sourcing events.
  • With management's supervision, coordinates review of developed customized contract drafts by stakeholders (i.e. Legal - based on associated risk, Internal Client, Risk Management & Insurance Services, Audit Services, Environmental Services, Safety, etc.) to mitigate risk.
  • With management's supervision, prepares purchase orders and sends copies to suppliers and to departments originating requests.
  • Responds to customer and supplier inquiries about order status, changes or cancellations.
  • Actively aware of safety in day to day activities.
  • With management's supervision, compares prices, specifications and delivery dates in order to determine the best bid among potential suppliers.
  • Tracks the status of requisitions, contracts and orders.

Minimum Skills
Personal Computer Usage
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
A minimum GPA of 2.5.
Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
