Sous Chef-2 (temporary - April through June)

Department: Cafe

Reports To: Executive Chef

FLSA Status: Exempt

Hours: Full-Time (40.00 hours per week)

Position Summary:

We seek a motivated and experienced individual to join our Vermont Law and Graduate School team as Sous Chef 2. This temporary position plays a key role in daily cafe and catering operations. As the Sous Chef, you will have the opportunity to help plan, supervise, and participate in the preparation of food for both The Cafe's daily operations and catered events.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and supervising all culinary operations of the cafe and catering services,
  • Assist in coordinating event details with management and other staff members.
  • Assist in planning and preparing menus based on various factors, such as market trends, customer preferences, and nutritional considerations.
  • Assist in the running of short order stations.
  • Assist in allocating duties to other staff members.
  • Assist in the ordering of product and supplies.
  • Assist in checking in / putting away deliveries - ensure only quality products are received.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen / cafe, implementing systems and check lists to help staff comply to state mandated health codes.
  • First in charge in the absence of the Executive Chef - responsible for the continuation of all services as the Food Service Director assigns.
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Chef and Food Service Director.

  • Proven leader with a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to reorganize and perform under pressure.
  • Assist in planning and preparing for catered events, which may be outside of normal hours.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • ServSafe and/or HACCP certified.
