The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is establishing a Public Health Informatics & Technology (PHIT) Workforce Development Program. This Program, with support from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), will contribute to the nationwide effort to prepare 4,000 qualified individuals over the next four years to (1) modernize the nation's public health information infrastructure and (2) address the issue of health disparities and inequities. For more information about this ONC initiative/ Your Role on the Team Working closely with the Program Manager and the UCI PHIT Program Committee, the incumbent will serve as the liaison between the public health employer community and student interns in the UCI PHIT program. The incumbent will develop and manage paid internship opportunities for UCI PHIT students in consultation with UCI Public Health, UCI Informatics, and our Consortium members. This position includes, but is not limited to, managing the internship application process, matching qualified students with available internship positions, and providing support and oversight to student interns when they are in the field. The incumbent will also advise current undergraduate and graduate students interested in working in PHIT positions. In consultation with the Program Manager and Evaluation Specialist, the Field Coordinator will also analyze information on workforce development criteria, evaluate PHIT workforce needs and develop additional opportunities for professional development of those employed in PHIT.
