Construction Services Van Nest Shops is a premier provider of welding and precision machining services, committed to delivering top-quality components and assemblies to a wide range of customer. We are dedicated to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction. We are seeking Sr. Construction Specialist who is highly skilled and experienced in Machine Shop Operations and/or Certified Weld Inspector to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining and/or welding, with the ability to ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency in our production processes. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Computer Aided Design (CAD), Machinery Engineering, and Tooling, and/or a subject matter expert of Welding. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring that all machining and welding is performed according to governing specifications and maintaining high-quality on all company equipment. The candidate should have experience in welding processes, including GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW, and be familiar with API, ASME, and AWS Structural Steel codes.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Machine tool Specialist who can Operate and maintain CNC machines, lathes, mills, and other machining equipment.
  • Interpret technical drawings and specifications to produce precision components.
  • Develop and implement machining and welding processes to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Perform welding inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining and welding issues to minimize downtime.
  • Train and mentor junior machinists, designers and welders.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to meet project deadlines.
  • Maintains all Process Usage and Procedural qualification documentation as required.
  • Prepares documentation for the Quality Control Manager (QCM) for all filing related to R, U, S stamps such as a code fabrication or repair packages (traveler) for department related projects.
  • Provide guidance to planners and support them in creating documented work packages for all shopwork.
  • Provide details to our supervisors on inspections and methods of quality control.
  • Ensure packages contain all required information, such as design drawings, code calculations, receipt inspection, and test requirements.
  • Serve as the point of contact for engineering of shop equipment and tooling, including maintenance and repairs.
  • Point of contact for engineering pertaining to all Non-Destructive Evaluation and Weld Procedure requirements and repairs methods.
  • Review NDE personnels test methods and procedures on site
  • On monthly basis, conduct audits for compliance with Quality Control Manual.
  • Point of contact for the Authorized Inspector, (AI) for all field inspections when required.
  • Liaison with stations for all welding related concerns
  • Performs unannounced visits and spot checks of our welders and machinist.
  • Track weld failure rate to identify and take corrective actions regarding weld quality issues

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of welding inspection or machine shop operations experience or
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years of welding inspection or machine shop operations experience or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of welding inspection or machine shop operations experience
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering (mechanical or metallurgical) and and 2 years of welding inspection or machine shop operations experience
Relevant Work Experience
  • familiar with filing required documentation for repairs or alterations to pressure vessels Preferred
  • have an understanding of inspection utilizing Visual, Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrate, and other nondestructive test methods. Preferred
  • Must be familiar with computer aided design software such as AutoCAD or Solid Works Preferred
  • Experience with three-dimensional software Preferred
  • Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Other: Certified Welding INspector 1 Year Preferred
Physical Demands
  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
  • Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
  • Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
  • Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
  • Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
