Position Summary: The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer plans, specs, and designs equipment and processes, assembly tooling, and assembly line layout to coordinate activities for New Product Introduction (NPI) and continuation projects. They ensure process design supports the manufacturing of products to meet quality standards while minimizing production problems and costs. This position will develop and maintain manufacturing line layouts for maximizing space, efficiency, and effectiveness. They also ensure compliance with industry safety and design standards and guidelines. The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer contributes to moderately complex aspects of engineering projects. FLSA: Exempt Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- NPI process design and process sustaining.
- Manufacturing tooling design and integration.
- Advanced CAD design for automation and standard assembly tooling, gage/fixturing.
- Design tooling for advanced CNC machining operations for cost effective machine time.
- Develop and maintain NPI assembly line plans to meet timeline objectives.
- Assist and lead tooling, process, automation equipment design reviews.
- Train production teams with specific certification criteria.
- Create and maintain SOP or work instructions per ISO formatting.
- Identify potential process improvement projects, design, and develop programs to address findings.
- Develop and maintain project timelines and assembly line build out schedules.
- Lead training efforts for new processes and or tooling.
- Perform design reviews with product Design Engineers and manufacturing engineering peers.
- Develop, review, maintain, and update related documentation, files, procedures, databases, drawings, and schematics in order to ensure integrity of unit instrument and process control technologies.
- Build prototypes to prove complex and high-risk processes prior to final design.
- Work with Product Designers, Project Managers, and Manufacturing personnel to refine product and equipment designs.
- Complete assigned work within agreed upon schedule and budget while maintaining high level of quality.
- Develop and implement long range plans for process control improvements.
- Develop and modify procedures, work instructions, and training guidelines as needed for a variety of processes, including training of setup and maintenance personnel.
- Occasional travel required.
- Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
- Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education/Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Automation, Electrical, or other related engineering discipline, and 7-10 years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability of developing and implementing automation processes and equipment.
- Demonstrated fixture design using CAD such as SOLIDWORKS or related programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Instrumentation and Process Control engineering concepts and design including circuits, control systems, as well as a general knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Electronics, pneumatics, automation, PLCs, motion controls, and associated programming software experience preferred.
- Experience programming with C++ and Visual Basic a plus.
- Programming experience is preferred.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; Access experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member to accomplish objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, changing priorities, and demanding deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in managing and leading both long-term programs and projects, as well as address short-term operational issues.
- Practical hands-on experience with equipment, machining, and fabrication is a plus.
- Firearm and sports optics experience along with a knowledge of the shooting sports industry strongly preferred.
- Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
- Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
- Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
