Position Overview Serving as integral member of the Executive Leadership team the Chief Medical & Health Officer (CMHO) is the key physician leader in creating a unified vision, strategy and approach to improving maternal infant health through programs, education, and advocacy. This role will formulate and implement a strategy to guide programs across the country with clear measurable outcomes and in concert with partners, volunteers, healthcare professionals, corporations, and foundations. The CMHO will have oversight and lead the entire Mission Department and will enhance a culture that promotes integration, innovation, inclusion, and continuous momentum toward improving the health of all moms and babies while driving increased funding and investment to the organization's key mission initiatives. This position is a direct to the President & Chief Executive Officer and serves as key member of the executive leadership team. Position Scope & Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Medical and/or Mission-Related Expertise Provide strategic leadership and medical/mission expertise to drive forward all March of Dimes programs, education, advocacy efforts and other initiatives; ensure integration and collaboration with the research and scientific activities of the organization Develop and implement mission strategies aligned with organizational objectives and strategic plan to improve maternal and infant health outcomes Serve and play an integral role in fundraising efforts to secure and assist organization with reaching and securing revenue targets and objectives Partner with development teams to secure funding for mission programs, major gifts, along with grants, donor cultivation, corporations and foundations; mission department will also hold a specific revenue target Serve as the principal medical spokesperson, representing March of Dimes to medical professionals, partners, media and the public Participate in medical and scientific activities at national level that relate to March of Dimes mission, e.g. National Academies, professional societies, in order to bring March of Dimes into upper-level medical and scientific forums related to mission and establish contacts that can be used for organizational alliances and partnerships. Responsible for mission position statement strategy, in collaboration with marketing and communications, related to key areas of work to ensure appropriate communication with internal and external stakeholders Lead March of Dimes designated committees, and other high level expert groups to seek continual advice for the organization Lead Mission Advisory Committee of the National Board of Trustees and collaborate with external medical experts and advisory boards Program Development & Oversight Direct the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence based mission programs and initiatives Design and launch innovative mission-driven programs with clearly defined, measurable outcomes that demonstrate impact and attract donor funding Provide clinical review and oversight of all grants and programs while staying in adherence to all grant requirements, reporting and meeting all commitments Ensure medical accuracy and clinical relevance of all organizational materials and communications Serve as Chief HIPAA Compliance Officer, in maintaining organizational adherence to all federal and state privacy regulations through policy development, staff training, and regular compliance audits Monitor and implement updates to HIPAA regulations, ensuring timely modifications to organizational policies and procedures to maintain continuous improvement and staff compliance Coordinate and lead incident response for any potential HIPAA violations and oversee required reporting to relevant authorities Integrate research work into mission opportunities and partner to explore and leverage mission research investment opportunities Translate complex medical data, reports, third-party research into actionable insights for various audiences Lead the Innovation Fund, overseeing venture capital investments to drive advancement in breakthrough technologies and pioneering initiatives Oversee and guide the development of professional education materials and training for all internal staff and external healthcare partners/providers Policy & Advocacy Provide medical expertise to inform policy position and advocacy efforts Oversee Government Affairs team to advance maternal and infant health legislation while identifying and evaluating key priorities and focus areas that align to the organization's core mission and strategic plan Represent March of Dimes in interactions with federal agencies, professional medical organizations, and other stakeholders Review and contribute to position statements and technical briefings on emerging legislative issues Maintain a bipartisan approach to maximize our impact on maternal and infant health Qualifications MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school Board certification in Obstetrics/Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine or related specialty Current medical license in good standing Advanced degree in Public Health (MPH) or related field preferred Experience Minimum of 15 years of clinical experience in maternal-child health 10+ years in executive level leadership role Demonstrated experience in public health program development and implementation Track record of successful securing grants and managing through the entire lifecycle Experience working with non-profit organization preferred Skills & Competencies Outstanding reputation, clinical judgement and medical expertise in maternal and infant health Strong leadership abilities with experience managing and engaging a remote workforce Engaging and inspiration leader with a commitment to fostering an inclusive culture that drives growth, development and retention Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and media relations Proven ability to translate complex medical information for diverse audiences Strategic thinking and planning capabilities Strong analytical and research skills Collaborative approach to leadership and program development Excellent interpersonal skills and reputation of trust, credibility, and high standards |
