The Job

The SCAN Group Clinical Center of Excellence serves asan enginefor diffusion of novel solutions across the health plan and portfolio companiesto promote senior longevity, independence, access to care, and improved clinical outcomeswhilesupporting operational efficiency and financial sustainability.

The Sr. Data Scientist, Clinical Center of Excellence will lead data and analytics efforts for the CCOE Clinical Strategy team. The scope of this role includes clinical strategy for the Health Plan and portfolio companies (i.e., SCAN Group). This role is highly cross functional and requires: a deep knowledge of clinical data, a strong ability to extract insights from multiple sources and make recommendations to inform the clinical strategy, program design and operations, an ability to work in an agile manner support multiple workstreams, and an ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with partners at all levels.

You Will



  • Create data models, derive insights, and make recommendations to inform each stage of clinical program design from conception through to steady-state operations
  • Inform business case development to ensure KPI's are available and other data considerations are included
  • Define measurement plans for tests demonstrating clinical outcomes
  • Create predictive models during program design for clinical programs (e.g., predict members who are unlikely to get a flu vax, or difficulty accessing specialty care, etc.)
  • Create clustering models to identify patterns in our membership for segmentation and stratification purposes (e.g., care coordination triage)
  • Causal inference modeling to measure the impact of clinical programs on health outcomes
  • Leverage their expertise with the data elements and dynamics related to medical and pharmacy claims and authorization data, large publicly available data sets, MA quality metrics, MA and Port Co financial data to derive informed recommendations
  • Create operational dashboards to track performance against business KPI's and financial ROI for pilots and scaled programs
  • Support diagnosis of performance issues through data analyses
  • Facilitate senior leadership decision-making through the data and business insights
  • Leverage experience creating business / clinical dashboards, providing insights, and tracking financial and clinical outcomes to support program owners optimize their programs and portfolios
  • Manage multiple priorities across workstreams to ensure goals are met


Your Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable field (i.e., Data Science) required
  • 5-10 years working as a Data Scientist within health care, preferably Medicare Advantage
  • Ideal experience includes SQL, Python or R, Alteryx, and BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
  • Experience with Snowflake and/or Databricks a strong plus
  • Demonstrated capability of planning for short- and long-term range goals
  • Expert skills in data science specifically within the health care field
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to understand operational and clinical considerations to inform recommendations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, catered to a variety of audiences at various levels
  • Interpersonal and people leadership skills
  • Managing competing priorities and expectations across multiple stakeholders, ability to manage a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated understanding of healthcare industry including basic compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships and facilitate the exchange of information across business units
