We invite you to build your Transportation career at HDR. We are looking for a motivated Senior Highway/Roadway Engineer to serve in a technical role on the engineering development of urban and rural highway/roadway projects. Previous experience with TDOT highway design, construction phasing/maintenance of traffic, concept alignments, geometric layout and roadway modeling is preferred. Interchange design and coordination of survey, grading, drainage, utilities and layout of other various site items is a plus. Project involvement may range from planning and feasibility analysis to final design and through the construction phase. Primary Responsibilities



  • Serve in the lead technical role in the detailed development of urban roadway design projects
  • Perform quality assurance checks on major transportation projects on interstate and state highway systems
  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity
  • Assume some project management duties and interact with clients as needed
  • Assume some project management duties as needed and have a fair amount of client interaction
  • Supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed



Preferred Qualifications



  • 5 years of experience in highways and local roads engineering projects
  • Experience in marketing including preparing presentations and technical proposals
  • TDOT and local government experience and relationships
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience using Bentley (Microstation, Open Roads) or Autodesk (Autocad, Civil3D) for model-based digital delivery

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teams
  • Project management skills desirable
  • Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
  • Must have coordinated survey, grading, drainage and utilities and layout of various site items is a plus
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
