Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and tech-savvy IT professional to join our team as a System Engineer I supporting small to mid-sized businesses throughout the Greater Houston metropolitan area. The ideal candidate will possess an upbeat personality capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while demonstrating a passion for providing outstanding client experiences.

As a System Engineer I, you will work as an individual contributor collaborating with multiple internal teams to provide expertise, recommendations, and execution for systems implementation, administration, and support to deliver outstanding customer service. You will serve as a primary technical resource for approximately 30 dedicated clients while providing backup support for an additional 30-60 clients. This role requires expertise in systems implementation, administration, and support across multiple technological areas, with the ability to interact directly with client decision-makers.


Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive on-site and remote technical support to clients across the Greater Houston area.
  • Serve as an escalation resource for more complex technical issues.
  • Implement, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows desktop and server environments.
  • Configure, optimize, and secure network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
  • Deploy and manage cloud solutions, particularly in Microsoft Azure.
  • Administer VMware virtualization platforms.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Fortinet security equipment including switches and firewalls.
  • Develop and implement security best practices across client environments.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for all client networks ("Guidebooks").
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance and system updates to minimize downtime.
  • Respond to and resolve client technical emergencies within established SLAs.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with client contacts.
  • Mentor junior team members by providing assistance with complex technologies.
  • Complete projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • Actively participate in learning opportunities and maintain a commitment to professional development.

Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate working knowledge in one or more of these technology pillars:

  • Cloud technology (Azure, AWS)
  • Networking
  • Messaging and Unified Communications
  • Servers
  • Cybersecurity
  • Endpoint Manager deployment and maintenance

Technical Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows 10/11 desktop operating systems
  • Direct experience with Windows Server platforms, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Active Directory/Azure (User Management/Administration)
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online
  • Practical knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, routing, and switching
  • Experience implementing and managing cloud services (particularly Microsoft Azure)
  • Proficiency with VMware virtualization technologies
  • Experience configuring Fortinet devices, including firewall policies and security profiles
  • Working knowledge of common TCP/IP services including HTTP, FTP, DNS, and DHCP

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of relevant technical and customer service experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts.
  • Creative thinking and an innovative approach to technical challenges.
  • Ability to coordinate and work effectively with business stakeholders and technical resources.
  • Capable of working under pressure in time-critical situations.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation required.

Required Certifications

One or more of the following certifications (or approved equivalent):

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate (MD-100/MD-101)
  • VMware VCTA or VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • Fortinet NSE4 or higher
  • Cisco CCST or Cisco CCNA
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Citrix Certified Associate - Virtualization (CCA-V)
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)

Note: Certification list and requirements are subject to change based on technology trends and business needs. We provide training and reimbursement for certification achievement, with an expectation of achieving 1-2 technical certifications per year.

Travel and Physical Requirements

  • The ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Extensive travel throughout the Greater Houston metropolitan area.
  • Capable of working in various environmental conditions, including server rooms, warehouses, and office environments.

Schedule and Work Environment

  • Full-time position (40 hours per week), primarily Monday through Friday
  • Participation in rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergency support
  • Company-provided tools and resources for field support
