TITLE Student Information System (SIS) Administrator JOB SUMMARY The Student Information System (SIS) Administrator is responsible for administering and supporting the university's Student Information System (SIS) system and ancillary applications. They will conduct system analysis, perform hands-on builds of core SIS application stack, complete general system maintenance, and troubleshoot and resolve any system and application-related issues. Additionally, they will deploy applications and application customizations, enhancements, workflows, and interfaces connected to the SIS and, where needed, provide custom application development related to the SIS/ERP. As a member of the IT Solutions (ITS) team, the SIS Administrator is expected to uphold the division's mission to "empower an agile, digital university and elevate technology as a strategic institutional asset" and contribute positively to a collaborative, human-centered, innovative, accountable, transparent, and inclusive culture within ITS. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: Senior Manager, Student-Centered Applications or Manager, Data & Integrations Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following: IS Support & Development (90%) * Provides end-to-end application analysis and implementation support, including evaluating and recommending the timing and execution of upgrades for enterprise operating systems and applications. * Monitors system performance and performs routine system administration tasks to ensure the reliable performance of university-wide SIS systems. * Coordinates, configures, installs, and maintains new software releases, fixes, upgrades, custom code, scripts, scheduled jobs, etc. * Uses accepted application development and project planning methods to design, develop, test, implement, maintain, and support the university's major SIS systems, interfaces, and related applications. * Evaluates internal processes, procedures, practices, and standards and proactively propose changes to bring greater efficiencies. * Leads or participates in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new software systems and services related to the SIS platform. * Writes and maintains clear technical specifications and documentation, and provides training to users and technical support staff, as appropriate. * Provides high quality and timely SIS support, including responding to incident/problem tickets and troubleshooting errors and issues with university enterprise systems. * Works closely with product experience owners and project managers through all phases of software development lifecycle (SDLC) to ensure user experience design methodologies are included in software development. * Serves as a liaison between system users and vendors to manage issues through to final resolution. ADDITIONAL DUTIES Participation & Support (10%) * Maintains awareness of current practices and future trends in SIS application architecture, agile methodologies, application administration, and application development technology and best practices. * Represents IT Solutions and participates in the campus community by serving on working groups, project teams, and university committees. * Performs other duties as requested. EDUCATION Bachelor's degree required. Additional job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. EXPERIENCE Three years of relevant experience in application administration and/or development related to Student Information System (SIS) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Additional job- related education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. REQUIREMENT Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position. All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy requirements within the university by adhering to Federal and State regulations, and TWU Policies & Procedures. Work is performed under general supervision and performance is based on the effective completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential: * Ability to manage and support Student Information System (SIS) such as Ellucian Colleague, Ellucian Banner or similar. * Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague security, access setup, service accounts, process handlers and listeners, and data model. * Hands-on knowledge of Windows, Linux or other operating systems, including the file system and basic commands and utilities. * Knowledge of shell scripting, file permissions, daemons, cron jobs, command line tools, bash, pearl scripts, etc. * Strong written and oral communication skills (including ability to present ideas in user- friendly, business-friendly and technical language) and interpersonal skills with a focus on rapport-building, listening and questioning skills. * Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, including ability to anticipate, identify, and solve critical problems in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. * Ability to build effective relationships and strong commitment to working collegially and collaboratively with constituents at all levels in a diverse and distributed environment. * Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email. Additional/Desirable Skills & Abilities * Knowledge of Source Control tools, DevOps, code promotion, deployment procedures. * Ability to develop and/or maintain applications in one or more of the following domains: o Relational database (T-SQL, PL/SQL) o Web application development o Application-as-a-Service development (SaaS) * Deep knowledge of issues surrounding data security and best practices for balancing availability with security. * Ability to develop, maintain, and collaborate with application teams to perform complex configuration changes for periodic system and application updates, patches, version upgrades. * Knowledge of software development and project management methodologies and best practices from requirements gathering through quality assurance. * Ability to use Application Programming Interfaces (API)s in application development and integrations. * Ability to thrive in a higher education setting. * Knowledge of Texas Administrative Code (TAC 202) and regulatory compliance (e.g., FERPA).
