Specialist Payroll

What you will be doing:

The Payroll Specialist has a key role in executing the corporate payroll process and all ancillary processes including computing wage and overtime payments, auditing database updates, updating tax, direct deposit elections and interfacing payroll information to outside sources including banks and tax services. This position is vital in maintaining a high level of customer service for our employees. The Payroll Specialist interacts with a large portion of Premier's employees, assisting and guiding them with their Workday timekeeping, payroll, time off and payroll tax issues. Provides support and back-up to the Payroll Manager. Responds verbally or in writing to inquiries, complaints or problems and provides necessary adjustments of a non-routine nature. In addition, this position will be involved in several on-going projects requiring innovative and proactive thinking as well as providing support for testing of SOX and SOX process documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibility #1 - 25%

* Assist employees in use of Workday time tool by responding to emails, phone calls, and through proactive engagement of employees. Support ServiceNow for issues relating to Workday reporting and timekeeping. Advise employees on Premier compensation and timekeeping policies and guidelines.

Responsibility #2 - 25%

* Troubleshoot data and processes by researching issues and performing root cause analysis to define problems, recommend solutions, and to ensure fluidness and quality of the payroll process SOX compliance; maintain process documentation

Responsibility #3 - 25%

* Utilizing Workday, process semi-monthly payrolls, annual incentive payrolls, and other on-demand payrolls as needed. Monitor and control activity in the corporate financials - payroll mailbox
* Process periodic stock transactions
* Perform Social Security number verification for new hires and appropriate follow-up

Responsibility #4 - 15%

* Audit database updates and follow up with HRIS staff; process employee garnishments; off-cycle checks.
* Severance Accruals; research and analyze salary and tax information and provide to finance; validate data transfers within Workday
* Monitor payroll tax elections for new hires and state local changes to ensure proper tax withholding to avoid amendments
* Periodic tax check and correspondence with ADP.

Responsibility #5 - 5%

* Collaborate with Human Resources and other Corporate Financial Services staff to create efficient processes while ensuring the protection of Premier's assets through adequate checks and balances.

Responsibility #6 - 5%

  • Run payroll output interfaces, transmit to outside vendors for processing, and collaborate with HR and IT on maintenance and enhancements.

  • Back up support for all Accounting Operations function to include, but not limited to Ad Hoc Payments, Vendor Maintenance

  • Update SUI tax rates in Workday and correspondence with outside tax vendor

Required Qualifications

Work Experience:

Years of Applicable Experience - 2 or more years

Education:

High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

* Working knowledge of garnishments
* Working knowledge of multi-state tax laws
* Working Knowledge of multi-entity corporate payroll
* Workday environment preferred

Education:

* Bachelor's degree preferred

Working Conditions: Air conditioned office space Travel Requirements: Travel 1-20% within the US Physical Demands: Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves remaining stationary most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if movement is required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met. Premier's compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier's internal salary range for this role is $43,000 - $79,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
