This position is a principal-level healthcare professional who combines strong technical data engineering skills with a deep understanding of healthcare data, responsible for designing, developing, and managing complex data systems to support clinical workflows, care coordination, and healthcare analytics. This individual brings expertise in current and emerging clinical data models, standards, and regulations and will be critical in ensuring that we are aligned with current regulatory requirements. The Principal Clinical Data Informatics Engineer will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to establish and implement processes and standards to perform data integration and transformation, ensure the accuracy and reliability of data, and identify trends and patterns in patient data with the goal of improving healthcare delivery and coordination. The individual in this position will provide project leadership on data integration projects, including managing timelines, resource allocation, and stakeholder expectations.



  • Expert knowledge of the science and use of clinical data and informatics.
  • Expert knowledge and expertise in interoperability exchange standards and models (HL7, CDA, FHIR combined with RESTful APIs, USCDI, OMOP)
  • Understanding of clinical terminology and coding systems/standards including ICD, LOINC, SNOMED-CT, CPT and healthcare workflows to effectively translate clinical data into meaningful insights.
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards such as HIPAA and HITECH.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, VPN, SFTP) and principles for secure and efficient data transmission across healthcare organizations.
  • Proficiency in data engineering languages like Python, SQL optimization, arrays and structs, Scala or Java.
  • Expertise in cloud-based data platforms like AWS Redshift, Azure Data Lake, Google BigQuery, or similar serverless architecture and columnar storage.
  • Familiarity working with modern cloud data architecture and technologies such as Lake House.
  • Very strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex clinical data and translate it into actionable insights.* Excellent communication skills to work effectively with internal and external clients and teams of clinicians, data scientists, and IT professionals.
  • Expertise in navigating complex situations and environments to elicit needed information.
  • Excellent organization and documentation skills with strong attention to detail
  • Subject matter expert in clinical data analysis, cohort identification, and healthcare data interoperability.
  • Expertise with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and clinical decision support tools.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and identifying potential mitigation strategies and problem solving.


Requirements:
10 years' experience in clinical informatics or a related field, preferably in a healthcare or nonprofit healthcare setting.
Education:
MA/MS in Clinical Informatics, Health Information Management, Public Health, or a related field
MD/DO/ND/PhD in with Informatics fellowship preferred
Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience in related field may be substituted
Certifications:
Certification in Clinical Informatics (e.g., American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) Clinical Informatics.
Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS),
AMIA Health Information Certification) is a plus.

As this is a fully remote position within the United States we do consider your location as part of the equation using the cost of labor index in your area.
$120,000 - $153,000.
