The National Systems Group serves as the technical advisor to the Intelligence Community and its mission partners involved in the collection and distribution of national and tactical intelligence, including electronics programs, advanced technologies, ground and communications, imagery programs, and systems engineering and launch.

Operating within the NSG/National Intelligence Division (NID), the Special Projects Directorate (SPD) supports non-traditional Civil Agency customers with the technical development and operations of unique collection programs. We are looking for an Air Vehicle Systems Engineer (Sr. Project Engineer -Multi-Disciplinary Engineering) who enjoys providing program office technical support to Civil Agency customers and solving a variety of hard problems for the government. This position leverages skills across a broad scope of technologies such as communications, vehicle and sensor technologies, digital signal processing, system integration, mission analysis, and test. Position involves end-to-end mission and system engineering, current and future program planning and acquisition, system development, and deployment operations.

Work Model

This is a full-time position based in Chantilly VA, which requires 100% onsite work.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Delve into complex technical problems and distill the complexity into useful products for a range of customer audiences.
  • Coordinate efforts for conceptualizing technology applications
  • Identify technical challenges and opportunities in customer projects
  • Provide oversight of ongoing terminal and sensor developments
  • Develop innovative solutions to customer challenging technical problems
  • Generate design concepts that lead to system deployments, field testing, and/or operational execution
  • Initiate and coordinate support from domain experts from Aerospace's Engineering Matrix Organization across a variety of efforts

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the Sr. Project Engineer -Multi-Disciplinary Engineering

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or related technical field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively more responsible experience.
  • Strong practical experience in state-of-the-art communications and vehicle system technologies
  • Knowledge of special communications, sensor development, modeling and analysis, signal processing, data and resource management, and concept design.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to effectively navigate a complex multi-stakeholder program office environment
  • Wiling to travel domestically approx. 10% (typically quarterly) if required.
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance and polygraph, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or related technical field.
  • Prior experience with the SPD customer base
  • Experience with program office operations, acquisition, resource management, system engineering across a broadly scoped program and partnering relationships
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, with an emphasis on the ability to communicate complex technical subjects and program-relevant technology to varied audiences
  • Experience with government mission applications, special communications, waveform development, network and data infrastructure
  • Ability to independently define relevant, impactful, executable technical tasking for Aerospace Engineering Matrix organization from broad customer requests
