What work will you perform?

The Director of Corporate Communications is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy across Landstar network communications. The individual in this role ensures a positive company image by managing the flow of information to the public through various Landstar publications and network communications, as well as through media and public relations, crisis management, and corporate brand management. The individual in this position works with senior leadership and cross-functionally to align corporate communications and branding with marketing, corporate events, and overall business objectives. Qualified applicants should be prepared to provide writing examples in a variety of formats when requested during the interview process.

Reporting to the Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, this in-office position will be seated at the Landstar Headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida with reasonable flexibility to work from home occasionally.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Develop and implement corporate communication plans that align with company goals, including messaging development, key audience identification, and communication channel selection.
  • Manage the Corporate Communications department, including leading and mentoring a team of communications professionals.
  • Support executive leadership, including the Chief Executive Officer, with respect to communication strategies, speech drafting, presentations, and other executive materials.
  • Effectively present information to Landstar employees, agents and independent owner/operator truck drivers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and other companies, managing press inquiries, issuing press releases, and coordinating media interviews.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans to address potential negative situations and protect the company's reputation.
  • Responsibility for drafting and executing on various Landstar communication materials.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Marketing team to support marketing efforts.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Events team in support of Landstar events.
  • Manage Landstar images, photography and video for corporate brand.
  • Manage department budget.



Required Minimum Experience and Education:



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work-related experience.
  • Five years of corporate communications experience.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders
  • Excellent written communication skills in varied formats including long form text, AP-style writing, speech writing, script writing, business memoranda, PowerPoint presentations and press releases
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Strong competence in managing multiple competing priorities and high-stress situations
  • Consistent demonstration of emotional intelligence
  • Proven experience in public relations and media management
  • Strategic thinking and ability to develop comprehensive communication plans
  • Ability to quickly gain and maintain knowledge of relevant industry trends

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
