This role is pivotal in driving the strategic development, implementation, and optimization of advertising products to help maximize revenue while maintaining a user-friendly experience for our audience. As a product manager focused on ads technology, you will work cross-functionally with engineering, design, editorial, and business development teams to create, refine, and optimize our advertising solutions for desktop, mobile web, and mobile apps.

Responsibilities
  • Define and prioritize the advertising technology product roadmap based on business goals, competitive analysis, and user insights.
  • Deep understanding of the digital advertising ecosystem, including programmatic advertising, ad exchanges, SSPs, and DSPs.
  • Identify and assess new ad formats, technologies, and partnerships that align with the company's revenue and impressions goals.
  • Use data-driven insights to assess performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and make informed development product life-cycle decisions.
  • Partner with the data team to track key performance metrics (e.g., viewability, click-through rates, revenue per mille (RPM), etc.) and optimize ad formats and placements.
  • Collaborate with engineering to create and steward non-functional requirements such as security, usability, reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Conduct A/B testing to drive continuous improvement in user engagement and revenue.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across editorial, sales, marketing, and engineering teams to gather detailed functional requirements in writing for ad products and technology needs.
  • Conduct interviews, workshops, and surveys with internal teams and external clients to understand business needs, technical constraints, and desired user experiences.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders during the requirements-gathering phase, providing clear communication and managing expectations effectively.
  • Identify other growth opportunities such as improved ad functionality, increased visibility in high trafficked areas and develop strategies for unsold inventory.
  • Stay informed of emerging trends and best practices in digital advertising, especially within the news and publishing sectors.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, computer science, or a related field; an MBA or relevant advanced degree is a plus.
  • 4 - 7+ years of product management experience, with a strong focus on ad tech, digital advertising, or revenue-generating products.
  • Experience working with companies such as Freewheel and systems like OpenWrap, Prebid, and GAM.
  • Experience with ad metrics, analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Looker), and A/B testing.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects, prioritize tasks, and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
