Duration: 3+ months Contract

Pay rate: $22/hr on w2

Location: Milwaukee, WI 53204

Shift timings: Mon - Fri Between 6.30 AM - 3 PM

BG/DT required: Yes

Job Description:

  • This position is responsible for receiving and washing glassware, plastic ware, sampling equipment, and related items. Prepares sampling containers and equipment for sample collection and analysis; and maintains the glassware preparation area in accordance with District policies and procedures.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Carefully washes labware by hand and in industrial-type dishwashers with care to properly ensure the quality of all data produced in the laboratory.
  • Prepares and labels containers for laboratory or sampling activities.
  • Picks up and delivers dirty and clean glassware to appropriate laboratory areas and maintains inventory of necessary supplies for labware cleaning area.
  • Maintains inventory of necessary supplies for labware cleaning area.
  • Cleans and maintains industrial-type dishwashers. Performs minor troubleshooting as needed.
  • Supports all lab sections as directed, including routine safety station checks in all lab areas. Assists with media preparation, minor analyses, and evaluation of safety equipment.
  • Properly disposes of samples, sample containers, and other laboratory waste.
  • Trains support help for assigned duties in dishwashing area.
  • Ensures the completion of all required records, paperwork, documents, etc.
  • Performs routine tests to ensure dishwashing effectiveness as needed.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience: Six months of job-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of elementary principles of chemistry.
  • Knowledge of basic safe chemical handling procedures.
  • Ability to reliably and safely handle fragile laboratory glassware.
  • Ability to operate industrial-type dishwashers.
  • Computer software proficiency.

  • Environmental Exposures include:
  • Work regularly requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens (may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment); occasionally requires exposure to wet/humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration.
  • Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. heavy traffic, large equipment).
  • Travel: 1%


Equipment:

  • Including but not limited to industrial-type dishwashers, lab glassware, lab plastic ware, computer and related software, telephone, FAX, photocopier, scanner, etc.
  • Protective Clothing/Equipment:
  • Requirements include a lab coat, safety glasses, a face shield, gloves, an apron and closed-toed shoes, depending on the type and location of work being performed.
