LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES, MIDDLE TENNESSEE MENTAL HEALTH INSTITUTE, DAVIDSON COUNTY
This is an on-site position.

Qualifications
Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to one year of law enforcement or security work; qualifying full-time law enforcement, security or related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Necessary Special Qualifications: A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.
Overview
Under general supervision, is responsible for lead-level institutional and related security work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. An employee in this class may be assigned to work any shift in leading and providing a full range of institutional and other security services, such as protection of public buildings. Work activities may include the supervision of staff during a work shift or full supervisory and performance management responsibilities for assigned security staff. This class differs from that of Security Guard 1 in that an incumbent of the latter acts in an entry-working capacity. This class differs from that of Security Chief in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for directing a staff in security operations on a 24-hour basis at a large state facility.
Responsibilities
- May assign, train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned security staff and their work. Creates work schedules to ensure adequate staffing levels and supervises a shift of subordinate staff in the performance of security duties as assigned.
- Advises any security concerns to supervisor. Communicates with law enforcement agencies to exchange information and request assistance.
- Performs various security activities such as paroling facilities, monitoring alarms, monitoring security systems, checking for safety hazards, and violations of laws and rules. Operates security equipment in the performance of security tasks such as two-way radios and other communication devices, patrol and other transportation vehicles.
- Controls the entrance and exit of individuals by checking for identity, purpose of visit, and authorization. Escorts individuals to ensure their safety as needed.
- Responds to calls and takes appropriate action to assist in emergency situations Searches for and apprehends missing or unauthorized individuals.
- Prepares and maintains various reports such as incident reports, vehicle citations, visitor logs, and personal property reports.

TN Driver Standards
