Position Description

The Supplier Quality Engineer will be responsible for a wide variety of initiatives within the Supplier Quality organization and for providing support across Procurement, Engineering and Operations. This includes monitoring Supplier Performance, facilitation of Continuous Improvement projects with suppliers, offering Engineering and Operations support of flawless execution and providing leadership in Supply Chain transition initiatives.

This is a hands-on position that requires close and effective working relationships with organizations such as Supply Chain, Project Management, Product Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, Assembly & Test and Field Service. Travel of up to 50% may be required. This position works under limited supervision, reporting to the Supplier Quality Manager.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide Engineering and Operations tactical support to investigate and resolve Supplier Quality issues
  • Support containment actions for supplier defects and short-term actions for resolution
  • Lead corrective actions with the supplier to eliminate future defects from occurrence
  • Provide project support for supplier related customer inspection and witness requirements
  • Oversee Supplier Qualification, process development and transition to/from specific suppliers
  • Create and manage Supplier Development and Quality Plans to support specific Supply Chain and Engineering Initiatives
  • Verify/Review Supplier Deviation Requests, route for engineering approval and communicate back to the Supplier
  • Monitor Supplier Performance and prepare/report to management and the appropriate commodity buyer
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills & Abilities Required

  • Previous supplier auditing experience
  • Internal auditor 3rd party certification - ISO 9001 & AS9100
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and team facilitation skills
  • Superior time management skills; demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects / assignments simultaneously

Qualifications Preferred

  • BA/BS degree in Engineering or Business
  • 3-5 years' experience in an OEM environment in Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Continuous Improvement role
  • Experience with special processes (castings, machining, fabrications) and metallurgy
  • ASQ Certification - CSQP, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, CQE, CQA
  • Other Certifications - AWS, ASNT, NACE
  • Experience in strategic sourcing and supplier analysis
  • Able to build and maintain productive relationships with suppliers and internal customers
  • Perform and follow-up for external quality system audits. Evaluation of procedures and processes to determine compliance with applicable requirements
  • Continuous Improvement and lean manufacturing experience. Demonstrated ability at leading or facilitating teams through problem solving events
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Analyze data to identify trends of non-conformances and supplier performance
  • Technical ability to read/interpret engineering drawings and industry/customer/supplier specifications
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications to include MS Word, Access, Power point and Excel
  • Familiarity with ASME and API standards desirable
  • Actively participate, demonstrate and promote a culture of awareness, personal choice, peer support and continuous improvement relative to safety and quality

Compensation Details

Annual Salary: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00
