What You'll Do

The Materials Integration and Disposition Project Leads will provide support for dispositioning excess and unwanted material and difficult material throughout the Y-12 complex. This includes:



  • Leading projects in support of multiple programs, evaluating and selecting candidate materials for disposition/disposal/relocation, obtaining authorizations, leading and tracking progress on projects, scheduling and coordinating support from various disciplines, and providing general project support
  • Working with operations and programs to solve various project related problems including capacity, safety and security
  • Assembles and leads project teams that are composed of personnel from multiple functional and operational organizations
  • Establishes the scope, cost and schedules of the projects/tasks to meet the objectives and milestones
  • Implements planning and execution of work to optimize organizational efficiencies and maximize support for customer requirements
  • Approves resources for the Program Managers to establish priorities within the Programs to accomplish project requirements


Responsibilities:



  • Conducting research to characterize material and difficult material lots
  • Researching and documenting the history of material and difficult material lots
  • Understanding the different Y-12 facility material handling and storage requirements
  • Developing project plans and disposition paths for difficult materials
  • Reviewing work requests and procedures in order to execute the disposition of materials
  • Working independently to resolve project issues
  • Provide input to the various Program Managers to support their programs
  • Determine project risks, capabilities and propose commitments
  • Support project level planning in regards to budgets and programmatic objectives
  • Validate processing capability, capacity constraints and other impediments or opportunities to successfully execute materials disposition
  • Manage costs and provide other project status and milestone reports
  • Interface with Program Managers to ensure program objectives remain on target with ongoing projects

  • Timely and through completion of difficult materials disposition efforts
  • Identification and execution of projects that disposition difficult materials


Authorities:



  • Provide direction and assign work scope to team members to facilitate planning and execution of work on difficult materials
  • Authorized to manage the inputs and content of relevant databases in support of the difficult material disposition activities
  • Authorized to represent production personnel in the definition and execution of projects

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • OR Master's degree: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
  • OR PhD
  • Tenor more years of relevant education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Must have prior experience in facilities and operations activities and nuclear materials disposition activities, and project management experience
  • Requires general knowledge of plant facilities and operations, materials inventory and plant systems used to manage those inventories
  • Requires an ability to interpret and apply program requirements to successfully fulfill job responsibilities, including frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
  • Ability to lead a team and work successfully in a team environment is required as interface with personnel at the NNSA Production Office, other DOE complex sites, and NNSA headquarters personnel may be required
  • Requires proficiency in computer software that allows efficient data processing and data manipulation and includes a working knowledge of Y-12 systems that process or store nuclear material information in order to fulfill job responsibilities
  • Experience and knowledge of the nuclear material manufacturing operations and processes and the physical/chemical characteristics and properties of nuclear materials is preferred
  • An understanding of the NMC&A functions is desired
  • Typical relevant experience ranging from 7to 10years

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
