  • We are hiring immediately for an ASSISTANT DIRECTOR DINING SERVICES I position.
  • Location: Ann Arbor PS - 601 W. Stadium Blvd., Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Note: online applications accepted only.
  • Schedule: Full time schedule. Monday through Friday. Multiple work locations, day shift.
    • This position is based in Ann Arbor Public Schools and requires occasional travel between school locations.
    • Work is generally conducted during school hours, but flexibility may be required for special events or staffing needs.
  • Requirement: 2 years of food service experience, management preferred. 3 years of experience working in HR and or recruiting/training.

  • Salary: $65,000 - $70,000

Job Summary

Summary: The Assistant Food Service Director is a key member of the foodservice team at Ann Arbor Public Schools, responsible for assisting in the efficient operation of the school foodservice programs. This position specializes in the human resources (HR) aspects of the operation, focusing on hiring, onboarding, training, attendance tracking, employee recognition, and managing employee-related matters. The Assistant Food Service Director will also support foodservice supervisors in overseeing day-to-day operations at elementary school foodservice programs. This role reports directly to the Food Service Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • HR Management: Handle recruitment, onboarding, training, attendance tracking, disciplinary actions, LOA requests, and employee recognition for food service staff.

  • Operational Support: Assist with daily food service operations, menu planning, inventory, meal preparation, and compliance with safety and quality standards.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Maintain communication with supervisors, school administrators, and staff, addressing concerns and ensuring program success.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: 3+ years in food service or HR management; school or institutional food service experience preferred.

  • Skills: Strong knowledge of food service operations, excellent communication and organizational skills, discretion with confidential info, and multitasking in fast-paced environments.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
