Position Overview:

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) seeks a talented Safety and Logistics Officer to join our team supporting NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). The selected candidate will work closely with NASA scientists to support field-based operations related to science and safety campaigns.

The key responsibilities are:

  • Support field campaign logistics including inventory management.
  • Manage field gear purchasing, meeting room arrangements, and contracts for disposables or other supplies for deployments.
  • Conduct field safety training, including first aid, powerboat, and ATV safety.
  • Manage and track field gears and equipment.
  • Assist in the development of safety and emergency planning for field operations.
  • Travel to field deployments to provide on-the-ground logistical and operational support.
  • Offer support for transportation and safety coordination during the field campaign.
  • Attend meetings and collaborate on planning as required. Provide planning and staffing support for meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) and a minimum of 10 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience implementing safety protocols in field campaigns.
  • Knowledge of field gear and equipment management, especially related to safety equipment.
  • Familiarity with satellite communication tools and basic troubleshooting.
  • Experience with field gear and equipment procurement processes.
  • Must have First Aid or CPR Certification.
  • Must have field safety certification along with ATV and boat control safety certification.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiar with NASA field campaigns.
  • Wilderness First Responder training.
  • Snowmobile safety and Aircraft safety training.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
