What you will do:

The Director of Business Development position resides in the Global Strategy group and works closely with business units to define and execute Johnson Controls long term vision.

The Director of Business Development's primary role is to develop & execute proprietary company growth strategies around existing JCI businesses (adjacencies) to ensure the sustainable/profitable organic & inorganic development for the company that will ensure the sustainable profitable growth of the company resulting in a higher valuation.

This role, reporting to the Executive Director Business Development Global Products, will be responsible for supporting corporate business development activities for Johnson Controls Global Products businesses and Data Center Solutions division. This involves identifying opportunities for growth and developing effective strategies to capitalize on them, including market expansion through strategic partnership growth initiatives and accretive acquisitions. This role will also be responsible for supporting the definition of new lines of business through thorough research and analysis. Furthermore, the role will work closely with cross-functional teams to execute on strategic initiatives, monitor market trends and competitor activities, and provide insights to inform strategic decision making. Finally, this role will assist in cultivating relationships with potential partnership/acquisition targets to drive growth and business expansion.

How you will do it:

The role will need to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to drive business results, develop business cases and presentations that communicate complex ideas and strategies, and build relationships with key stakeholders, including senior executives, entrepreneurs, and investors. Effective communication is critical, using a variety of tools and techniques such as presentations, reports, and data visualizations to convey complex ideas and findings. Finally, this role will need to stay up to date on industry developments, analyze market data and research, and identify opportunities for growth and improvement in current and adjacent markets.

  • Experience in developing investment theses, business cases, and executive presentations.

  • Experience with market assessment, including primary and secondary market research, segmentation, and data-driven growth projections.

  • Effective project management skills.

  • Experience in coordinating with various stakeholders across different departments.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information and proprietary data.

  • Bachelor's in Science plus Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from an accredited college in a related discipline

  • Minimum 10 years of business & strategic development experience

  • 3-5 Years in management consulting

  • 3-5 Years in functional role (P&L leadership, sales, engineering or manufacturing)

  • 3-5 Years of strategy in support of M&A transactions

NOTE: This is a virtual/remote position considering candidates who reside within the United States. Preference is for candidates in the Central or Eastern time zones.
