3-5 years of experience in international education, global engagement, or student services, with a demonstrated understanding of SEVIS data processing and compliance with Department of Homeland Security ( DHS) regulations. A Bachelor's degree in international education, higher education, or a related field is required. The candidate should possess strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex data and ensure accuracy in reporting. Experience in developing and managing programs, program evaluation, and global competency initiatives is highly valued. Excellent interpersonal communication, cross-cultural communication, and advising skills are essential. Familiarity with federal immigration regulations, data management systems, international relations, and quality control processes will be beneficial. Additional training or certification in SEVIS operations, global engagement, or data management is a plus.

Primary Purpose of Position
The Global Engagement Specialist plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the Office of International Affairs ( OIA) by fostering global learning and ensuring compliance with international student regulations. This position serves as the program lead for the Global Engagement Certificate ( GEC) program, a micro-credential program that develops student's international competencies through a series of globally relevant courses and activities, culminating in a digital badge. The program lead is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the program. Additionally, the Global Engagement Specialist will assist with Student and Exchange Visitor Information System ( SEVIS) data processing under Department of Homeland Security ( DHS) guidelines, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and quality control in all aspects of international student data management.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The unit oversees SEVIS data processing under Department of Homeland Security ( DHS) guidelines, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and quality control in data management. Additionally, the unit is responsible for the development and implementation of study abroad programming and international partnerships.
Work Hours 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site)

Required Competency Attention to Detail
Duties
As a SEVIS Designated School Official ( DSO), attention to detail is critical to ensuring compliance with Department of Homeland Security ( DHS) regulations. Specific duties include meticulously reviewing and updating international student records in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System ( SEVIS) to maintain accuracy and prevent errors that could impact a student's visa status. This involves carefully monitoring enrollment, program completion dates, and reporting changes such as address updates, employment authorizations, and program extensions. A DSO must also conduct thorough audits of SEVIS data to identify and correct discrepancies, ensuring all documentation is precise and aligns with institutional and federal guidelines. Additionally, a DSO must pay close attention to deadlines for reporting requirements and visa compliance processes to avoid penalties or disruptions for students. Clear communication, detailed record-keeping, and a commitment to accuracy are essential in this role to support both institutional integrity and the success of international students.


Required Competency Business and Records Administration
Duties
Ensuring the accurate maintenance, organization, and security of all student files in compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations. The role requires verifying and updating student data in institutional systems, monitoring deadlines for record submissions, and ensuring compliance with regulations such as FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Additionally, the position involves generating detailed reports for institutional review, conducting audits to ensure data accuracy, and coordinating with departments to address discrepancies. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple administrative tasks are essential to ensure the integrity and reliability of student records and related processes.


Required Competency Critical Thinking
Duties
Analyzing complex situations, identifying potential challenges, and developing innovative solutions to support the goals of the Office of International Affairs. This includes evaluating data to make informed decisions, interpreting policies and regulations to ensure compliance, and assessing program effectiveness to implement improvements. Critical thinking is also essential for addressing unforeseen issues, facilitating collaboration among stakeholders, and developing strategic initiatives that align with institutional objectives.
