These positions require an active Secret or TS/Sensitive Compartmental Information (SCI) clearance depending on Task.

We are seeking an experienced Staff Consultant to support Task 1, Task 2, Task 3, or Task 4 of the Department of Defense (DoD) Air Force (AF) contract. These tasks focus on cybersecurity, including the implementation and governance of Zero Trust security models and ensuring compliance with NIST standards.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Staff Consultant: Pay commensurate with experience.

Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.

Staff Consultant Responsibilities Include:



  • Provide cybersecurity expertise in Air Force and DoD enterprise infrastructure, governance, policies, and procedures with a focus on implementing Zero Trust security frameworks.
  • Lead the design and implementation of Zero Trust security models, ensuring alignment with NIST SP 800-53 and other applicable NIST cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity regulations, particularly regarding Zero Trust architecture, data protection, and access control policies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Zero Trust principles across Air Force and DoD IT systems, ensuring that all projects align with NIST standards for cybersecurity.
  • Guide stakeholders in meeting NIST 800-171 and NIST 800-53 standards for securing controlled unclassified information (CUI) and sensitive DoD data.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and governance frameworks to support cybersecurity best practices and Zero Trust within the DoD enterprise.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Staff Consultant Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • Bachelor's degree in IT or a related field.
  • Proven experience with Air Force or DoD infrastructure, governance, policies, and cybersecurity, with a focus on Zero Trust and NIST cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Expertise in NIST SP 800-53, NIST 800-171, Zero Trust security models, and related DoD cybersecurity regulations.
  • Deep understanding of Zero Trust principles and NIST cybersecurity frameworks, including SP 800-53, 800-171, and 800-82.
  • Proven ability to lead the integration of Zero Trust models in complex DoD IT environments.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to engage with various DoD stakeholders on cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Ability to solve complex cybersecurity challenges, ensuring compliance and reducing risk within the DoD IT infrastructure.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
