Summary

Evening Shift

The Pharmacy Technician - Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) Specialist is an advanced technician who works within a team to support 200+ medication dispensing cabinets including ongoing maintenance, inventory optimization, user and discrepancy management, new implementation and training. The ideal candidate can work independently, identify opportunities for improvement and successfully implement these changes. This role will serve as a resource for other care team members.


  • Assists with ADC implementation and maintenance, including configuring new cabinets, assigning and stocking initial inventory and entering and deleting users.

  • Serves as the primary contact with ADC customer support, assists users to diagnose and resolve patient and medication order problems and accompanies technicians during service visits. Reviews and adjusts inventory levels.

  • Educates team members on the ADC system, participates in policy and procedure development and short- and long term planning.

  • Reviews ADC reports and refers to a pharmacist in a timely manner as needed. Assists the Medication Diversion Prevention Committee with data needs.

  • Performs medication distribution functions within the pharmacy and/or automated dispensing system including but not limited to reports, refills, loads, inventory, outdating, drawer failures, and resolving discrepancies.

  • Reports near miss and Adverse Drug Events and unsafe conditions, inspects medication storage areas as assigned, and monitors the proper operation of medication refrigerators.

  • Answers telephone, receives and relays messages, and resolves medication related problems. As a member of the patient care team, communicates effectively both in person and over the phone to ensure safe and efficient distribution of medications.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Associate's Degree preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: Current or eligible for applicable state(s) license as a Pharmacy Technician. CPhT or PTCB certificate preferred.
  3. Experience: Experience as a pharmacy technician or other healthcare related position preferred.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Technical expertise related to information technology.
