SUMMARY Self directed and independent technical leadership position for development, implementation and maintenance of nondestructive assay program at customer site or independently. Responsible for technically defensible decision making in support of customer programmatic objectives. A Senior Physicist is accountable for adhering to all safety and quality requirements while performing assigned tasks. PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES
- Comply with all Alpha Safety values, policies, procedures and work instructions.
- Support all aspects of compliance with applicable Quality Assurance requirements ensuring system methods and documentation are implemented in accordance with customer, national and international standards.
- Support management in all aspects of departmental compliance of ISO 9001.
- Develop, guide, and implement fully compliant Nondestructive Assay (NDA) programs at customer sites, including method selection and instrument performance specification.
- Perform NDA technical oversight over the entire program including the planning, documentation, conduction, and supervision of system testing.
- Perform initial calibrations, qualifications and certifications for instruments and methods.
- Provide expert technical data review (ETR) services.
- Provide consultation on NDA matters to various facility departments and organizations such as nuclear safety, safeguards, nuclear materials control and accountability, waste characterization, waste disposal and production operations.
- Provide subject matter expertise and technical leadership to client.
- Provide regulatory audit defense support for customer program.
- Optimize customer program with respect to financials, schedule and technical criteria within scope of service to client.
- Remain knowledgeable of current and future technologies appropriate to current job activities.
- Simulate physical experiments with MCNP code for radiation measures and detection.
- Analyze results of experiments to determine feasibility of accurate or improved detection and sensitivity/performance capabilities for PSC systems.
- Develop algorithms for Alpha Safety systems.
- Interface with software to implement and debug algorithms and data acquisition systems developed for Alpha Safety systems.
- Write and review system technical basis documents and system measurement test plans.
- Write and publish technical papers related to Alpha Safety systems and technical support activities.
- Apply mathematical methods to analyze and solve physical problems.
- Provide mentoring to other job categories.
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Master's Degree or Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, or nuclear engineering and five years NDA experience; or fifteen years of experience in the NDA field
