AI/ML App Engineer

Project Description. Working as part of a small team of highly knowledgeable and skilled experts, you are helping the customer develop an in-house AI/ML edge processing capability. Your team will take this project from concept to completion - identifying use cases; recommending existing COTS, GOTS, and bespoke applications, techniques and solutions; creating or integrating the new HW and SW products; testing and validating; and then sending out for use. We need someone who is creative, detail-oriented, loves finding solutions to challenging problems, likes to tinker with both HW and SW, has experience creating AI/ML applications, and can communicate these complex concepts to less technical decision makers.

Location: This is an on-site position, reporting daily to work in Reston, VA. You will be working alongside your customer, the mission operators, and the requirements owners.

Tasks and Responsibilities. This project is going to span the full life-cycle of creation, and you're going to get to flex different parts of your skillsets across the project. Here are some examples of tasks and responsibilities that you may have:

• Plan, design, and develop complex electronic systems for operational missions.
• Analyze customer needs to determine the costs, capacity, and requirements.
• Design and integrate electronic devices, products, software, and components for specific applications, to include AI/ML applications and processing chips.
• Produce and provide supporting documentation, including inputs for user manuals and design files related to newly developed projects.
• Recommend design modifications to harden, improve existing capability.
• Create testing procedures and maintenance for the hardware and software associated with electronic equipment or microelectronics used for AI/ML edge compute, or other edge processing components.
• Inspect electronic systems, instruments and equipment to ensure they meet applicable regulations and safety standards.
• In support of developing in-house AI/ML edge processing capability, identify needed hardware, software, tools, and equipment such as microelectronics and printed circuit board capabilities.

Required Qualification:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in an applicable engineer or technical degree, such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or physics.
• At least five years of relevant experience.
• U.S. Citizen with a TS/SCI clearance and willing and able to obtain a CI poly.

Preferred Qualification:

• Previous experience working on-site to support the DoD or the IC.
• Experience using edge processing to design and produce devices for different functions.
• Experience developing technology solutions with involvement in the process through the full development life cycle.
• Experience in the design, construction, and integration of prototype devices and components that involve AI/ML applications, edge processing, or microelectronic mechanical systems.

• Experience with AI/ML applications deployed on mobile/cellular technology.
• Experience designing & integrating hardware & software electronic devices.
• Experience performing tests to determine functionality of integrated or designed components.
• Problem-solving skills to resolve performance issues effectively.
• Experience with engineering tools such as: 3D computer-aided design (CAD) modeling tools; GITLAB; engineering design and drawing, like SolidWorks; MATLAB; or similar.
• Ability to design mechanical concepts, have a pragmatic attitude, and capability to translate concepts into practical designs that meet specified requirements.
• Knows with C or C derived development languages.
• Experience designing low power design (for battery powered devices).
• Familiar with RF communications and micro-electronic antenna technology
• Electro-mechanical assembly skills.
