NC State Wellness and Recreation is seeking energetic and responsible individuals to prevent emergencies and provide swift, effective responses when needed, creating a safe and enjoyable environment for our community.
This is a temporary, seasonal, part-time position starting
May 5, 2025 and ending September 2, 2025. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Aquatics.
Proactive Patron Safety: Maintain surveillance of aquatic areas to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. Hazard Recognition and Prevention: Continuously monitor facility areas, identifying and mitigating potential hazards to prevent accidents. Emergency Response and Rescue: Execute prompt and effective emergency response procedures, including water rescues, to assist swimmers in distress. Facility Maintenance and Cleanliness: Perform routine preventative maintenance, including cleaning tasks, to maintain a safe and sanitary aquatic environment. Facility Inspection and Reporting: Conduct regular inspections of the facility and equipment, promptly reporting any unsafe conditions or malfunctions. Policy Enforcement and Education: Enforce established guidelines and swimming rules, educating patrons on safe aquatic practices. Operational Support: Assist with daily opening and closing procedures, ensuring the facility is prepared for operation. Policy Compliance and Implementation: Demonstrate a thorough understanding and consistent enforcement of Wellness and Recreation and area-specific policies and guidelines. Emergency Action Plan Proficiency: Maintain a comprehensive understanding and readiness to implement the facility's Emergency Action Plan.

Demonstrated Lifeguard Prerequisite Proficiency: Exhibit mastery of all American Red Cross Lifeguard prerequisite skills, including:
- Continuous swimming of 300 yards.
- Treading water for 2 minutes.
- Successful completion of a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
Professional and Collaborative Teamwork: Interact professionally and respectfully with patrons, fellow lifeguards, and other staff members. Proven Lifeguarding Experience: Possess prior experience as a lifeguard, demonstrating the practical application of lifeguarding skills and emergency response protocols.
