Essential Job Duties |
To serve as the lead field technician on a new eastern white pine field research project. Primary job duties will center on assisting the principal investigators in the establishment of research and monitoring plots and collection of field and laboratory data. Experience with the installation and measurement of fixed-radius field plots, collection of forest stand composition data, assessment of insect population density and host impacts, and the sorting, labeling, preservation, and microscopic identification of insect specimens are required. This research technician will be an employee of NC State University but will have office space with US Forest Service collaborators at the
USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station in Asheville, NC. |

The Technician will assist with a cooperative research project between NC State, the
USDA Forest
Service Southern Research Station, the North Carolina Forest Service, the Virginia Department of Forestry, and the University of Georgia, and will play a critical role in the implementation of field research related to the silvicultural management and monitoring of an emerging eastern white pine dieback syndrome in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. |
Minimum Experience/Education |
Candidate with a MS in Forestry, Entomology or closely related field or BS in Forestry, Entomology, or closely related field plus one year of field and lab experience. |
Department Required Skills |
The selected applicant must be self-motivated, well-organized, work well independently and as part of a team, and able to take meticulous field notes and understand and follow experimental designs. Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle Operators License are also required. |
